We Break Down Today’s JUMANJI, INHUMANS, and DEATH NOTE Trailers

We in the Nerdist office woke up this morning to not one, not two, but three high-profile trailers: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Marvel’s Inhumans, and Death Note. Plus, Chobot is back, baby! Joining her today on Nerdist News Talks Back are managing editor Alicia Lutes and associate editor Kyle Anderson to discuss the three adaptations. While very different genres, each project has one thing in common: they are all adaptations of beloved properties that are going to be hard-pressed to satisfy fans.

Unlike the original Jumanji film, which featured two children getting sucked into the titular board game, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sees four teenagers sucked into a video game of the same name. Each teenager inhabits the body of their chosen character, and the trailer has fun with the confusion that would be caused by, for example, transforming from a popular teenage girl into Jack Black. We’re pleasantly surprised by what we’ve seen, and we hope the movie will live up to its trailer. You can watch it below.

Though Agents of Shield has featured Inhumans for three seasons now, we have yet to see the Inhuman Royal Family, the stars of the Inhumans comics. Now, we finally know how the ABC show will portray the super-powered family. One odd thing about the trailer is that only Iwan Rheon’s Maximus the Mad has any lines, which makes sense for the silent protagonist Black Bolt, but not so much for the rest of the family. At least we get to see Lockjaw the teleporting bulldog have some fun!

2006’s Death Note is one of the most tense, gripping anime of all time, and many wondered how Netflix would manage to replicate its methodical pace in a two hour movie. Well, turns out they’re not. Netflix’s 2017 adaptation appears to feature much more action than its animated counterpart rather than try to fit nearly 20 hours of gradual development into one movie. Either way, Ryuk looks freaking awesome! Here’s a sexy pic for comparison:
