Watch the First Trailer for Sam Raimi-Produced POLTERGEIST Remake

Until recently, horror fans hadn’t heard much about the Poltergeist remake, produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Monster House‘s Gil Kenan. Last month star Sam Rockwell made a few comments about the film that’s been done for a while, saying, “The 10-year-old boy is really the protagonist this time. JoBeth Williams was the protagonist for the most part in the first one and now the kid, it’s really through his point-of-view. So it’s more of a kids’ movie so I don’t know if it’s gonna be like rated-R scary.” Rockwell also described the movie as “a child abduction film” which makes perfect sense to me.

While many a person on the internet freaked out, screaming “KIDS’ MOVIE?!” at the top of their virtual lungs, I don’t believe that’s what Rockwell was saying at all, instead making reference to the little boy being the protagonist this time around where JoBeth Williams’ Diane Freeling character was the protagonist in the original Tobe Hooper classic.

Yesterday saw the release of the first images from the movie and today we’ve been treated to a full length trailer for US audiences and international audiences, both included below.

For contrast, below is the French-language trailer. You can see not only a difference in tone but a lot of different images and scenes as well.

Poltergeist, starring Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Jane Adams, directed by Gil Kenan and produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, hits theaters in 3D on Friday, July 24, 2015.

Why remake ? You don’t care about the honoring of the original characters in the original poltergeist. I’m sure this new flick will suck. I will not wAtch this remake. Like I say you are out of an order.
