Watch SUPERGIRL and THE FLASH Explain the Multiverse

As the record-breaking success of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has proven this weekend, there’s no end to the amount people want to see their favorite superheroes team up (or punch themselves senseless). But while this is new for the DC Universe on film, the television incarnations have been doing it for a few years now, with Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow routinely. And on Monday’s episode of Supergirl, ol’ Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) himself is going to pay Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) a visit. But since the shows are on different networks, and constant crossovers are going to be unlikely, how on Earth(s) could they explain such a thing?

The multiverse, people! It looks as though the explanation for Barry ending up on CBS is that he ran so fast he hopped universes. Wouldn’t be the first time. In the above clip, Barry and Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) explain the multiverse theory to Kara and James Olsen using a white board and the power of ice cream. Pretty good gig if you can get it.

And, just as you probably were hoping, Barry and Kara are adorably awkward around each other (boy, Barry has that effect on young ladies, doesn’t he?). In this second clip (below) you can see how nobody in the Supergirl cast is very good at lying to Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) about, well, anything. Your cousin?! Also, fun reference/slam on the CW there, Cat. Ha.

The crossover event of the season – on TV anyway – will air Monday, March 28, at 8/7c only on CBS.
