Watch POWER RANGERS’ First Extended Clip, and More Movie News

Oh, it’s morphin’ time, all right… Today’s Movie Morsels has the very first full-length clip from Lionsgate’s very eagerly awaited Power Rangers reboot. Plus, we’ve got first word on Margot Robbie and Steven Spielberg‘s latest projects, and a whole helluva lot more. So suit up, kids, and let’s get this power party started…

Power Rangers

Well, if you thought the new Power Rangers movie was gonna be the same low budget, campy, kid-oriented experience as the original ’90s TV series, you’ll toss that thought out the window when you watch its first extended clip. This thing looks to take itself at least as seriously as a Transformers film, if not a Marvel movie, and the production value is out of this world. As can be seen in this footage of the titular teen team stumbling upon its remarkable destiny…

The Assignment

Michelle Rodriguez helps anchor most any action movie she’s in, so it’s a joy to see her get a solo thriller of her very own. Rodriguez stars as an assassin whose life (and body) change when she meets a cold-blooded mastermind played by Sigourney Weaver. Here’s the first trailer for The Assignment

Marian

Margot Robbie is in such demand right now that the actress isn’t just making history, she’s rewriting mythology. The latest project to get her talents is Marian, a new take on the Maid Marian of Robin Hood folklore. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “unfolds after the death of Robin Hood, the love of her life. The titular maiden then picks up his cause to lead her people into a pivotal war that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but also see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.”

The Post

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg simply cannot get enough of each other. After Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me if You Can, The Terminal, and most recently the Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies, the two chums are reuniting for The Post. Co-starring Meryl Streep, the film is based on “the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971, and how the Post’s editor Ben Bradlee and publisher Kay Graham challenged the federal government over their right to publish them.” Given the current White House’s attitude towards a free press, this film couldn’t come a a better time.

Wonder Woman

WONDER WOMAN

In case you haven’t heard, Nerdist visited the set of Wonder Woman. And we were so impressed by what we saw that we’re telling you why Wonder Woman is our best hope for the DCEU. We also spoke with Gal Gadot about the challenges of the title role. And our own Alicia Lutes has a few words to say about the sexism imbued in some of the conversations around the film and in female-fronted superhero films in general.

La La Land

Finally today, La La Land is going on a concert tour! While you won’t see Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling at a live theater near you, you will have a chance to hear the film’s amazing soundtrack played in person in this musical revue!
