Watch Joseph Kosinski’s Live-Action Trailer for DESTINY: THE TAKEN KING

The time has almost come, Guardians. Soon we’ll be taking the plunge into Destiny: The Taken King. To celebrate the impending release of the massive fall expansion–which comes out on September 15– Activision has released a live-action launch trailer–which is viewable above–helmed by big time Hollywood director Joseph Kosinski (of Oblivion and Tron: Legacy fame). Keeping to what seems to have become a trend by now (think back to the Become Legend Trailer), the trailer is set to the Led Zeppelin tune “Black Dog”.

As we were already aware, The Taken King pits an angry Oryx, father of Crota–whom we defeated during the “Crota’s End” raid in The Dark Below DLC–and his army against our guardians.

The launch trailer sees a fire team of guardians and Ghost taking on enemies aboard Oryx’s ship The Dreadnaught. Though taking out their foes is a gun-slinging piece of cake for the trio, The Taken King himself shows up, pulling the reaction “Ah, man. You killed his son?” from the team’s hunter.

As you’ve probably already noticed, the trailer features the Ghost character’s brand new voice. It’s sad to see that the age of the Dinklebot is now cemented in the past. But, Nolan North, who’s most famous for his role as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, has officially taken the reigns from Game of Thrones’ darling Peter Dinklage. I’m still trying to decide which voice actor I prefer, which was only made even more difficult after watching the two repeat the same lines back to back. While I noted that I was fond of the original’s more serious/slightly sarcastic tone, North’s voice suits the above trailer just fine.
