DESTINY: THE TAKEN KING Gets an Epic New Story Trailer During Gamescom

The time is almost upon us, Guardians. The massive fall expansion Bungie has planned for Destiny will be launching September 15, and boy is it looking good. In the wake of the news that Nolan North would be replacing Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage as the voice of Ghost and the revelation that the level cap was going to be raised to 40, the developer released a brand new trailer for The Taken King during Gamescom 2015, giving us a closer look at what to expect when it comes out next month.

The trailer–which you can check out at the top of the page–already makes it readily apparent how welcome North’s voice will be in the game. That man’s voice is like silk. SILK, I tell you. Anyways, from the looks of the trailer, things are getting pretty dire, which is great because it means that there will actually be a story this time around.

Yes, there was a “story” before, but it finally looks like something interesting is going to happen. Oryx is preparing to take over the galaxy and as a result of our adventures thus far in Destiny, we’ve angered him, which, needless to say, isn’t good for anybody (including the Awoken Queen’s brother Uldren, apparently). We did kind of bring an end to his son Crota, so I guess his vengeance makes sense.

In addition to giving us a closer look at the expansion’s plot, the video also briefly shows Oryx’s corrupted group of “Taken” forces. We also already know The Taken King brings new guardian subclasses, a new location, competitive modes, strikes, a raid and crucible maps, so seeing that the stakes are raised for the campaign is a good indication that it might be worth diving back in for more.

What did you think of the trailer? Let us know in the comments below.
