This week Team Nerdist hit the 41st Annual Saturn Awards Ceremony, held in Burbank, California by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films (which describes the award as “the only major award dedicated to honoring the finest in genre entertainment for film, television, and home entertainment.”) Among the night’s big winners, which included fan-favorite films and TV shows like Nightcrawler, Gone Girl, The Walking Dead, Hannibal, Game of Thrones, and The Flash, was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which scored four awards: for Best Comic Book-to-Film Release, Best Actor in a Film (Chris Pratt), Best Film Director (James Gunn), and Best Film Make-Up (for David White, Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou).

Though Chris Pratt wasn’t on-hand to accept his trophy (shaped like the ringed planet from which it takes its name), his friend, director, and fellow winner James Gunn was in attendance, and received Pratt’s award by reading a most amusing acceptance speech penned by the funnyman turned movie star. Pratt texted his speech to the filmmaker, who was forced to read it verbatim, and is now sharing it via this Facebook video for all to enjoy…

Despite having a cold, this has been a great 24 hours. I was just invited to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (mega thanks to Peyton Reed and Jon Favreau for sponsoring me). Today I shot a cameo for Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man series alongside the wonderfully talented and shockingly hilarious Candice Patton (she plays Iris West on The Flash). And last night we won four Saturn Awards for Guardians of the Galaxy – best director, best comic book film, best actor, and best makeup. Here is some video of me accepting Chris Pratt’s award for him. He sent me a text message as his speech and made me promise to read it verbatim.

While Pratt may not win any spelling bees (though let’s be honest, the “there/their” mistake is one we’ve all made at some point in our lives), it’s nice to know he’s looking after his buddy by announcing his availability for romantic liaisons, and in the process trying to earn a few spare bucks. And with the kitten shirt Gunn’s wearing in the above video, I’m sure the bidding would have gone quite high indeed.
