Watch Dave Grohl and Prophets of Rage Cover MC5’s “Kick Out the Jams”

If you haven’t heard of Prophets of Rage, it’s a new supergroup consisting of members of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill. Tom Morello said of the group to Rolling Stone, “We’re an elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullshit, and confront it head-on with Marshall stacks blazing.”

Anyway, the political rap-rock band is on the road now, and near the end of their Toronto concert last night (which the band streamed on Facebook), they decided to cover punk classic “Kick Out The Jams” by MC5 with a special guest we all know and love: Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl.

“You’re going to flip the f— out right here,” the band said. “We’d like to welcome our good friend Dave Grohl to the stage.” Cue Grohl entering, heading to the nearest mic and yelling, “Kick out the jams, motherf—er!” before the group plus Grohl launched into a spirited performance of the essential track. It’s not often you get two of the most visible guitarists of the past 20 years, Grohl and Morello, on one stage, so it was a moment to behold.

If you like what you hear, the good news is that you won’t have to wait long for more gratification, since Prophets of Rage is set to release a new EP, The Party’s Over, tomorrow, and it includes the title track, a reinterpretation of the Public Enemy song “Prophets of Rage,” and three live performances.
