Watch a New SING Trailer and MOANA Clip, and More Movie News

Hey there, folks, ready for something hammy? Because Illumination has just let loose a new trailer for the studio’s star-studded musical Sing, and it’s our top story in today’s Movie Morsels. And because we’re living in a new Golden Age of Animation we also have for you a brand-new clip from this holiday season’s other animated epic, Disney’s Moana. But just in case cartoons aren’t your thing, we’ve got the latest from Assassin’s Creed and plenty more. So let’s get morselin’!

Sing

With a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Nick Kroll, and Nick Offerman, plus more cameos than you shake a microphone at, Illumination’s Sing looks like it’ll have something for pretty much everyone when it opens on December 21st. (Did I mention it also has an original song by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande?) Many of these talented folks are featured in the film’s latest trailer, which is anchored by Kroll’s German-accented, overly optimistic singing swine…

Moana

Meanwhile, over at Disney’s animation kingdom, the latest clip from Moana finds the film’s title character (voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) probing her mysterious grandmother, a.k.a. the “village crazy lady” (voiced by Rachel House), for some answers about her family’s legacy. Will The Little Mermaid and Aladdin directors Ron Clements and John Musker’s return to musical-comedy-adventure top the mammoth success the studio already found this year in Zootopia? We’ll find out when Moana hits theaters on November 23rd!

Assassin’s Creed

Michael Fassbender gets ready to see, hear, and feel the memories of his ancestors in the latest TV spot for video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed. Though the visuals are suitably spectacular, I’m a little concerned that both of Fassy’s lines of dialogue in this trailer—”I’m beginning to like this” and “The party’s just getting started”—are rather hoary cliches. But hey, any movie that co-stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, and Brendan Gleeson has gotta have some worthwhile one-liners, right?

The Current War

tom-holland

While we still have quite a ways to go before we see Spider-Man and Doctor Strange team up in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, actors Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch might join forces much sooner. Holland (pictured above in In the Heart of the Sea) is in talks to co-star with Benny in The Current War, a drama about the feud between Thomas Edison (Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (played by Michael Shannon) over how best to bring electricity to American homes during the 1880s. No word yet on who the once and future Peter Parker will play, but we hear Nicholas Hoult and Katherine Waterston will also star as Nikola Tesla and Westinghouse’s wife.

Patriots Day

Finally today, Yahoo has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes look at Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon director Peter Berg’s film about 2013’s Boston Marathon bombings. Mark Wahlberg returns to his hometown to play a Beantown cop alongside John Goodman and J.K. Simmons, all of whom are present in this featurette. The video explains the lengths to which the filmmakers are going to insure authenticity and respect for those whose lives were turned upside down by this real-life tragedy…
