Watch a Hydraulic Press Crush Some Old Cameras

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video footage of some cameras being crushed with a hydraulic press has to be worth at least a couple hundred.

This is the latest from one of the best, totally-pointless-but-totally-awesome YouTube accounts around, the Hydraulic Press Channel (or, if you prefer the pronunciation of the wonderful host, “Who-drawl-ick” Press Channel). This time, he tried to answer the question of whether Nikon or Canon makes the better camera… for demolishing purposes.

Both ended up in a pile of rubble and plastic, but the nod went to Nikon for still looking in the end like it had once been a camera. The really fun part here, though, was the crushing of the lens, which didn’t explode out, but just kept getting flatter and flatter until it produced a satisfying pop.

Some of you might be too young to understand fully what happened with the Nikon camera, namely why a backdoor-type thingy popped open during the crushing process. That’s where film used to go. Film used to be very important in acquiring pictures. That and going to Walgreens.

Make sure you stick around to the end for the bonus crushing, because I genuinely can’t figure out if they know that the “blue monster” is quite famous. I mean, he looks a little off, like a Times Square mascot, but he is holding a handful of cookies, so it’s pretty obvious who that is.
