While we may sometimes look down upon them, television crossovers have a lot of potential to sometimes deliver surprising results, and especially in todayâs post-Marvel world, theyâre are all the rage, and one of the most recent staples to get hit with the crossover bug is The Simpsons. After striking a major blow to the world of pop-culture relevancy and legacy by airing 12-days worth of episodes non-stop on FXX, the series returned for its new season in a crossover event with Fox frienemy, Family Guy. Too many of our collective reliefs, what resulted from the mash-up was a surprisingly enjoyable hour of animated television that delivered on what we were hoping for. Of course, one thing that kept hindering the episode, however, was the culmination of two very distinct comedy styles in creators Matt Groening and Seth MacFarlane. This is why the next Simpsons crossover event with fellow Groening creation, Futurama, has us so much more excited.
In fact, because so many people are looking forward to the episode, Fox has released, via The Hollywood Reporter, a clip from the event:
But thatâs not all as the network as also released the couch-gag from the episode:
Despite being separated by a millennia, the humor of both properties appear to gel very well together, which undeniably is because the brain that spawned them are one in the same. The gags, at least in the clips, are very outlandish and sweet, not nearly as rough around the edge like Family Guy, which is just the way we like our Simpsons. Whether or not the episode will offer more thrills is something that can only be answered by tuning in at 8/7c this Sunday.
