Things are about to get groovy on Starz: in just over two months, Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert will reunite for their first trip back to the Evil Dead universe since Army of Darkness in 1992! And now we’ve got a sweet behind-the-scenes look at what’s in store for all of us on the TV sequel iteration.
In Ash vs. Evil Dead, it’s been 30 years since Ash Williams (Campbell) last encountered the Deadites. The Chosen One has turned his back on his destiny in order to become the world’s oldest stock boy. But the Deadites are back, and Ash is gonna have to break out his chainsaw and boomstick. Because let’s face it: killing monsters is really the only thing that Ash is good at.
After the red-band Ash vs. Evil Dead trailer debuted on Sunday, Starz released the first behind-the-scenes featurette from the set of the series. In the video, Campbell and Tapert share their thoughts on Ash vs. Evil Dead alongside showrunner Craig DiGregorio and the cast members—including Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones. Judging by some of the new clips, it looks like Ash will face a killer doll in addition to a terrifying new breed of Deadite!
Santiago is playing Pablo Simon Bolivar, Ash’s new sidekick. Also along for the ride is DeLorenzo’s Kelly Maxwell, Ash’s other new sidekick. But Lawless is nobody’s sidekick in this show: she’s playing Ruby, a woman with a connection to the original Evil Dead movies who has a very good reason to believe that Ash is responsible for the Deadites’ return. Rounding out the cast is Jones as disgraced Michigan State Trooper Amanda Fisher—a woman who blames Ash for the death of her partner. But as you can see in the video above, Amanda has very close encounter with Deadite that may cause her to rethink her priorities …assuming she survives the experience.
The ten-episode first season of Ash vs. Evil Dead will premiere on Saturday, October 31 on Starz.
