What THE WALKING DEAD’s Time Jump Means for Show’s Future

Friday’s panel for The Walking Dead at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 showed us a trailer for the upcoming eighth season that left us well and truly shook. Much like the comics did, the popular zombie-laden cable show is going to treat us to a major time jump. And given where the show is in comparison to the Robert Kirkman books, it’s pretty easy to try and pinpoint what’ll happen next year, and it leads us to one of the comics’ best story arcs. We’re breaking down what we’re likely to see in season eight on today’s Nerdist News!

Warning! This shiz is about to get spoilery. If you don’t want to do, turn back now.

Join host, and the zombie apocalypse’s most popular K-beauty expert, Jessica Chobot as she tells us exactly what the implications of the trailer are. You see, in the SDCC trailer, we see the continuation of last season with the survivors of Alexandria still at odds with Negan and his G-darn Saviors. This leads us to believe we’re going to see the “All Out War” storyline that sees the Alexandria group teaming up with the Hilltop and the Kingdom to take down Negan.

This would be all well and good, except the trailer ends with what appears to be a flashback to Rick Grimes in his coma…It’s not, though; it’s a jump forward. In the comics, it was a jump of two full years. Society has started to reestablish itself and humanity has brought itself back from the brink of destruction. Not everybody wants to let bygones be bygones, though, and one of those people is Rick, now carrying a cane, likely due to Negan messing his leg up royally. Rick is salty, even beating a guy nearly to death for messing up Walker-Watching duties. Will they go that dark in the show with our ostensible hero? We’ll have to find out.

But if the show goes into “All Out War” and time-jumps, that means *SPOILERS* Negan won’t be around, because he’ll be a prisoner, and the show will have a hefty villain void to fill. Could this also suggest the Whisperers–the survivors who stay alive by wearing the skins of zombies and shambling around–could also be on the horizon.

What do you think? Is there any universe in which “All Out War” doesn’t happen? Are you as tired of Negan and his pontificating as we are? Let’s discuss!
