Virtual Pop Star Hatsune Miku Will Tour North America This Spring

Remember Hatsune Miku, the Japanese virtual reality pop star, or as her creator describes her, a “singing voice synthesizer” with over 100,000 songs to her name? She’s had a number one album in Japan, she’s opened for Lady Gaga, she guested on David Letterman’s Late Show, and now, the CGI performer will embark on a brief North American tour, playing six total shows in April and May (and five concerts in Japan before making the trip over here).

Kanae Muraki, the Director of Global Development for Crypton Future Media–the company that created Miku–said of the tour, “Miku Expo 2016 will be more focused on concerts, but we plan on holding several surprise events in cities with performances and maybe even some cities between tour stops. They will feature collaborations with special guests and new songs, including the winner of a song contest organized during the tour’s build-up.”

In case you have no idea what the heck we’re talking about, here’s a song from a live performance Miku did a couple years ago:

Tickets are not yet on sale, so keep tabs on Miku’s tour website to find out when they become available, and check out her tour dates below. Let us know in the comments if this tour seems like a cool idea, or if there’s no way Miku can live up to the VR performance standard set by Gorillaz’s live shows.
