VENOM Film Coming Next Year, and More Movie News

One of Spider-Man‘s most popular foes will be making his solo film debut even sooner than we thought–Sony’s Venom film is on the fast track to hit theaters in 2018! Also in today’s Movie Morsels, Aquaman‘s release date is moved back, a new video look at The Mummy, the latest on Mission: Impossible 6, and lots more…

Venom

Venom-Marvel

The first film devoted to that big gooey goof of the Spider-verse has a release date: October 5, 2018. Sony was going to release The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel The Girl in the Spider’s Web on this date, but that film has been moved to to October 19, 2018. What puzzles me is how Sony is going to turn Venom into an entire franchise, especially with a Spider-Man film series being produced simultaneously with Marvel, since this is just the first film in what the studio hopes will be a long line. Hell, wouldn’t Loki make for a more compelling series of films? In any case, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (who wrote the much-maligned The Amazing Spider-Man 2) are scripting.

Aquaman

Aquaman

Hey, speaking of October 5, 2018… That’s the date that Warner Bros. had originally set for its Jason Momoa-starring Aquaman. But that date has just been pushed back to December 18, 2018. So update your calendars accordingly, Aquafans!

Mission: Impossible 6

Man-From-UNCLE-review-081415

While we’re talking about the DC Universe (you see how everything is connected, folks?!), it was just announced Henry Cavill will be joining the cast of Paramount’s sixth Tom Cruise-starring Mission: Impossible film. Since the last time Cavill played super-spy, in 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (pictured above), he was about a hundred times more charismatic than he was in either of the films in which he’s starred as Superman, I am now much more excited for Mission: Impossible 6 than I am for Justice League.

The Mummy

Did someone say Tom Cruise? Because we’ve got a new behind-the-scenes video look at the actor’s Mummy reboot for Universal’s new shared “MonsterVerse.” The scene being shot here, in zero gravity, illustrates how this Mummy movie–like its Brendan Fraser-starring predecessors (yeah, remember those?)–will be just as much action film as supernatural thriller. And given Cruise’s fondness for doing lot of his own stunts, probably more so…

Transformers: The Last Knight

Young star Isabela Moner is sharing the new Transformers: The Last Knight trailer on her Facebook page before it plays in theaters along with this weekend’s Beauty and the Beast. Something tells me this kid is gonna win a lot of fans for her performance as the franchise’s first lead heroine who is actually given something substanital to do. (From the looks of it, she can really pack a wallop.)

One of the New Order’s fiercest warriors has found a new toy to play with since we last saw her in The Force Awakens. So what does Phasma’s new weapon say about her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? We ask the question on Nerdist News.

Beauty and the Beast

The Beast (Dan Stevens) and Belle (Emma Watson) in the castle library in Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, a live-action adaptation of the studio's animated classic which is a celebration of one of the most beloved stories ever told.

Our resident Disneyphile, the awesome Amy Ratcliffe, caught up with the cast of this weekend’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and asked them to share their favorite Disney movie memories. Here’s a video featuring what they had to say.

Baby Driver

Last but not least, our own Dan Casey sat down with director Edgar Wright, Jon Hamm, and the rest of the cast of Wright’s reportedly rad Baby Driver at this year’s SXSW, reaping some pretty interesting conversations. Check out the video of their chat!
