Upcoming GAME OF THRONES Episodes Reveal Big Plot Plans and Maybe-Spoilers

As anyone who watches Game of Thrones knows, the most mundane of details (and often the episode titles) can give insight into big things to come on the fantasy epic’s horizon. And now that HBO has revealed the episode titles for May’s forthcoming installments of the series, we’ve got a few more details to dissect and speculate on.

Now, remember, there are spoilers ahead, so don’t get crabby if you see something you didn’t want to. We’ll try and leave the big speculation bits to the commentariat below. But we have a request: don’t spoil any upcoming deaths! We don’t want to give folks an unfair leg-up on their fantasy fantasy league, do we? Unlike the rest of Westeros, we like to play fair here at Nerdist.

Premiering Sunday, May 4th is episode 5, titled “First of His Name.” According to the description, Cersei (Lena Headey) and Tywin (Charles Dance) will be plotting the Crown’s next move while Dany (Emilia Clarke) discusses future plans. Meanwhile, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is set to embark on a new mission. Ooh: Sounds like Tommen might be getting the crown that day, eh?

In episode 6, “The Laws of Gods and Men,” slated to premiere Sunday, May 11th, Stannis (Stephen Dillane) and Davos (Liam Cunningham) set sail with a new strategy, while Dany meets with supplicants. Most interesting, though, is the note that Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is set to face down his father in the throne room. Could this be the episode where we finally see his trial for Joffrey’s murder?

Episode 7, the mysteriously titled “Mockingbird” (what is this? Hunger Games of Thrones?), Tyrion enlists an unlikely ally while Daario (Michiel Huisman) anxiously insists Dany let him do what he does best (which is… what? Change actors?). Meanwhile, people are still ignoring Jon Snow’s warnings about the vulnerability of the Wall, while Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) go on an adventure. Sunday, May 18th sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Especially given that it was written by Benioff and Weiss.

What do you think these descriptions reveal for the next few episodes of Game of Thrones? Let us know in the comments.

No Lady Stoneheart and no Strong Belwas. Boo to you Game Of Thrones.
The HBO series is great and all but Song Of Ice And Fire really comes alive with the rich history and a slow parallel narrative. In my opinion they should have taken it a lot slower.

  2. David says:

    **SPOILERS**
They broke entirely from the books by leaving out Jeyne Poole whose storyline became critical later in the books… Also where is the brotherhood without banners? We saw them for maybe two episodes in season 3, but they become critical especially with Lady Stoneheart…. Can someone please give commentary on that dragon they keep teasing us with over Kings Landing? … We will definitely be seeing more of Cersei *wink* this season or next… Where the f*** is Coldhands? and Leaf? and the Last Greenseer? they were all casted, can they at least expedite that story-line?… I do hope they break from the books and have Lord Baelish give Sansa the North sooner rather than later… Also, I would love to see Arya reunited with Nymeria after she becomes a Faceless Man.

  3. Will says:

Can we stop being so protective of spoilers? The book came out 14 years ago.

    Read you illiterate fools

  4. Glen Terry says:

Amber, as I understand it, Dany’s story sort of drags to a halt in the city she about to lay siege to. She gets caught up in the politics and nothing much happens.

  5. Djo says:

Mockingbird will be when Danny get raped by one of her dragons and john snow becomes a munic to prove he is a crow! Sorry for the spoiler …….. Seriously but who hasn’t read the books? Oh and imp finds the shire!

  6. Amber says:

I just hope they start showing more of Dany. Story wise not skin wise, for you ppl who joke like that when I say it that way. *glares at her husband* lol Dany is one of my faves and her story hardly gets any screen time. 🙁

  7. Peggy says:

Why would you spoil the death scene of prob the most powerful character of the entire series JJYN? So many people are just watching the episodes. Boooo

  8. Heather says:

Isn’t “mockingbird” the crest that little finger gave to himself….. There was a conversation between him and Cersei early on that revealed this

  9. Ben Linus says:

Oh, you spoiled everything. Damn, don,t you know Snow is gona revive after the knives in the dark?

  10. @JJJYN says:

I believe “The Mockingbird” is when Tyrion will kill his Beloved The Great and so called Powerful Father…Over Shae & his first Wife betrayal! That should be the one to look Forwards to… ✌

  11. Leann says:

    SPOILERS ahead!

I would assume that “Mockingbird” refers to Petyr Baelish’s self-made sigil. This is probably the episode that revolves around what he does at the Aerie.

  12. BWB says:

Where oh where is Lady Stoneheart?

  13. karo says:

Mockingbird – littlefinger, sansa, lyssa arryn and the vale, for sure.

  14. mwarren594 says:

They amount of typo’s in my last comment is unacceptable.

they write most of the EPISODES in a season

and I wouldn’t take them writing an episode to be of any MORE significance than any other episode

  15. kCAne MarkCO says:

i just finished the books, so far, think theres another to come. But i am pretty sure they are so far as this season goes keeping up with the plot in the books. Minus a few minor details. But even tho Ive read them i still look forward every week to see this tale come alive. Last week was phenomenal! Yet i love horses…see, no spoilers!

  16. mwarren594 says:

Just want to point out that Benioff and Weiss right most (not all, but most) of the episode every single season so I wouldn’t take them writing an episode to be of any significance than any other episode. That being said I’m sure important things will happen in that episode.

  17. Thersius says:

“the mysteriously titled “Mockingbird” (what is this? Hunger Games of Thrones?)”

The mockingbird is the animal of Petyr Baelish. Very mysterious indeed.

  18. keljamz says:

They are doing a decent job doing the show in tandem w/the books.
