There are many ways to love Halloween. Hardcore fans might watch a different horror movie every night in October. Others may start crafting intricate costumes, decorating every inch of free space with spiderwebs, or carving spooky pumpkins. There are also those of us that know that Halloween is a state of mind, a sense of style, a way of life, that far outlasts any particular month. Those Kings and Queens of Nerdoween live and breathe gothic glamour, like The Addams Family‘s Morticia Addams or the iconic Bride of Frankenstein. That’s why Unique Vintage, a vintage-inspired store created for and by women, decided to recreate one of their favorite images from their Creepy Collection: the Ghoul Gang!
To celebrate the beginning of our favorite season, Unique Vintage gathered together a ghoul gang of badass ladies, including our Bizarre States host and expert on the weird and occult, Jessica Chobot as Morticia Addams; Nerdist Editor-in-Chief and lover of all things spooky and strange, Rachel Heine as Lily Munster; Unique Vintage’s brilliant buyer, Chelsea Trimble as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark; and burlesque dancer, pinup model, and vintage voyager, Ashleeta Beauchamp as the Bride of Frankenstein!
But what is a Ghoul Gang? Sure, it’s a spooky squad of some of the most ferocious femme fatales in pop culture, but it’s so much more than that. We went behind-the-scenes of the 50s-inspired photoshoot (complete with vintage car!) to see some of the macabre magic that went into making this Ghoul Gang come to life.
The original Ghoul Gang t-shirt (designed by our pals at Culture Flock) brought these devious dames to life in its original run on Unique Vintage, but now it’s been resurrected from the dead along with a brand new line of creepy clothes, from Morticia’s gothic gown to Elvira’s witchy lace-up boots.
