Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s Umbrella Academy has long been a cult comic classic. With an adapted series soon headed to Netflix, it looks like the rest of the world will be falling in love with the dysfunctional family of superheroes too. A new trailer gives us a more in-depth look at the titular academy and the super powered seven who live there.
The dark comedy of the comics really comes through here as we’re introduced to the status quo that the comic begins with: 43 women all over the word give birth without ever being pregnant and wealthy entrepreneur, Reginald Hargreeves, adopts seven of the mysterious children to raise as an X-Men-style superhero team. It quickly drops us right into the present where the young charges of the mysterious benefactor seem less than happy about his decisions as they reunite to commemorate his death. Also the world is probably ending so they’ll have to do something about that too!
It’s a gorgeous trailer which shows off the great production values and immersive world of the show. We get to see each of the team as they navigate the strange world they were brought into as well as getting at glimpse at their powers and what they’ve chosen to do with them. For those in the need of a delightfully different superhero show this is likely going to be for you!
We were already excited for this one but this trailer has us eagerly awaiting the release date of February 15.
