ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Miles Morales Moves to Marvel Universe

Secret Wars may have destroyed the Ultimate Marvel Universe, but the Ultimate Spider-Man will live on!

Writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli are headlining an all-new ongoing series this fall which will feature Miles Morales firmly entrenched in the new Marvel Universe as Spider-Man. Bendis co-created Morales in 2011 as the new Spider-Man of the Ultimate Universe after the Peter Parker of that world was killed off. Morales was also the first bi-racial version of Spider-Man, with an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother.

“Our message has to be it’s not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it’s the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else,” said Bendis.

Original Spider-Man Peter Parker will be a key figure in Bendis’ new Spider-Man series, where he acts as a mentor for Miles. It’s not clear if Peter Parker will still headline his own Amazing Spider-Man comic, but it seems like a safe bet that he will.

“Many kids of color who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes, but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask,” added Bendis. “But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people…I realized my kids are going to grow up in a world that has a multi-racial Spider-Man, and an African American Captain America and a female Thor.”
