Ukulele Player Jake Shimabukuro Takes on TV Theme Songs

The sweet tones of a ukulele make any song sound more relaxed and cheerful. It also makes music sound more moving – even when it comes to television theme songs. We have proof! Talented player Jake Shimabukuro stopped by the Nerdist offices and showed off some excellent ukulele covers for some of his favorite TV show and movie tunes.

His energetic line-up includes the James Bond theme, the Family Guy theme, the haunting but happy intro for The Addams Family, and “I’ll Be There For You” from Friends. Yes, it is worth getting The Rembrandts’ infectious song stuck in your head. His renditions of each of the themes will make you feel like you’re in a comfortable hammock near the ocean awaiting a drink with an umbrella. Ahhhh. See – er, listen – for yourself:

If you like what you hear, consider seeing Shimabukuro in person on his Uke Nations tour; he’s on the road this summer and fall. He’ll be making stops in states such as Colorado, California, and New York before heading outside of the country. International fans can purchase tickets to see him perform in Japan and Canada. View his full tour schedule and nab tickets at his site.

Can’t hit the road to catch Shimabukuro live? Get comfortable in your chair, a/k/a the best concert venue ever, and stop by his YouTube channel for original ukulele compositions as well as more covers for songs such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Over the Rainbow.”
