If these character descriptions are real, there might be a little bit of The Brady Bunch in AMC’s The Walking Dead spinoff.

TVLine claims to have gotten their hands on character descriptions for AMC’s planned companion to the zombie series. And instead of a disparate group of strangers, the primary cast looks like it’ll be made up of a closer-knit group comprised of two families led by single parents and Andrea. No, not that one, a new one. Who I think might end up being the old one. Give me a second and I’ll explain.

First, here’s the potential zombie fodder for the show (with TVLine’s commentary):

“SEAN CABRERA : A Latino male in his early 40s, Sean is a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life.

CODY CABRERA: Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.

NANCY TOMPKINS: A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.

NICK TOMPKINS: Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee.

ASHLEY TOMPKINS: Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge.

ANDREA CHAPMAN: A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea — yep, another Andrea! — has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.”

Again, if the descriptions are legit, then they leave The Walking Dead companion series open to more inter and intra-family drama with the Cabreras and Chapmans. Curiously, no job descriptions are tied to any of the characters (for instance, Rick’s having been a sheriff is kind of integral to his whole deal as leader of the group in the main series). It could be interesting if one of these characters is either in the military or government apparatus, paying off the network’s promise to use this series as a peek at a previously unseen corner of Robert Kirkman’s zombie universe.

And the Andrea thing: this sounds kind of dumb, but I’m wondering if AMC might be using this Andrea as a kind of antidote from the less-than-beloved take on the character in the main series. The comic incarnation of that character becomes a certified badass, and it was weird watching the talented Laurie Holden being tasked with playing alternately suicidal and willfully naive. While this description seems miles away from the college student with a sniper rifle in the comics, I’d like to think AMC might find some room for a female badass in this universe who isn’t Michonne.

AMC recently greenlit the pilot for the companion series, but good old classic The Walking Dead will return on October 12.
