TV-Cap: TWIN PEAKS Premiere Update, BSG’S Aaron Douglas on THE FLASH, and More

Pilots, premiere dates, guest stars, and everything in between—it’s just another day in TV-Cap. Showtime had its day at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour so we have some information about debut dates for Twin Peaks and Penny Dreadful. Besides that, we have an Arrow stunt featurette, a cool Legends of Tomorrow cameo, and more.

Changes Ahead? MTV’s The Shannara Chronicles is based on The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks. Anytime you have an adaptation, there’s always a question of what will change and what will remain the same. Fans are especially curious about whether the show will remain true to the end of the book. Millar had some spoiler-free comments to share with Nerdist on that topic. You can read them right this way.

Throwing Punches. The stunts in Arrow continue to be some of the most impressive on television. Season four has already had some stellar examples, and James Bamford counted the best of them so far in the above video. It’s awesome to be reminded people actually do all the awesome moves we see on screen. [Nerdist]

Some Kind of Laughs. Comic book television is hitting on all fronts; it’s not just about dramas anymore. ABC has already added Marvel’s Damage Control to their development queue as an The Office-style comedy, and they’re apparently working on something else. ABC president Paul Lee said at the TCAs a second Marvel comedy could be in the works, but he didn’t say which property it was. Do you have any guesses? [Nerdist]

Time Travel Fun. While we’re on the topic of comedies, Fox has greenlit a time travel comedy from Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It’s a single-camera show focused on three pals hopping through time and generally making a mess of everything. [Deadline]

Rough and Rugged. We’re going to stay on the topic of time travel for this one. The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow will jump around the past and future, and one of their trips will be to the Old West. There, they’ll encounter none other than Jonah Hex. Casting for the role hasn’t been announced yet, but he’ll show up in eleventh episode of the series. [Variety]

Calendar Updates. As mentioned, Showtime had their time at the TCAs, and they brought both vague and concrete news. Let’s start with the less nebulous announcement: season three of Penny Dreadful (trailer above) will premiere on May 1. Then, they confirmed the Twin Peaks debut has moved from sometime in 2017 to the first half of 2017. It’s something, right? [Collider and TVLine]

Hodor All the Way to Ireland. How would you like to win a trip to Northern Ireland to visit the set of Game of Thrones? This isn’t even a question. HBO has partnered with Omaze to make that possible. You’d get to meet the cast, visit the armory, sit on the Iron Throne–no big. Learn more and donate to win at Omaze. [Nerdist]

Self-Improvement. NBC has found the leads for its new comedy Good Place. Kristen Bell and Ted Danson will star as Eleanor, a woman trying to improve herself, and Michael, the guide who will help Eleanor. I’m a fan of those two playing off each other. I’m also a fan of the news that Drew Goddard will direct the pilot, especially considering his work on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, and Daredevil. Good Place will premiere in the 2016-17 season. [Vulture, Deadline]

Moving Slower. The Flash returns from its midseason break on January 19, and Barry will be facing a different sort of meta-human. The Turtle, played by Aaron Douglas, has the ability to slow down time. That should be quite the challenge for Barry. Series executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “He’s going up against a villain who is literally slowing him down. This is one of our best episodes coming back that we’ve ever done. It feels big and emotional.” You can spot the Turtle grabbing Patty in the above trailer. [Comic Book Resources and Entertainment Weekly]

What do you think about Legends of Tomorrow going to the old west? Do you think they’ll run into other familiar DC Comics characters in their journeys? Share your theories in the comments.
