TV-Cap: THE X-FILES Premiere Date, First Look at THE MUPPETS, & More

Whew, what a weekend it has been. Upfronts kicked off this morning in New York so that means the TV news isn’t going to slow down for at least another few days. I’ll bring you the latest every day, but for now, let’s catch up on what happened at the end of last week. Today’s TV-Cap has news about The X-Files revival premiere date, a look at some of The Muppets, a poster teasing the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 finale, and much more.

Cue Flailing. The Muppets are going back to work! ABC is officially bringing Kermit and company to primetime with writers Bill Prady and Bob Kushell. Because the series has to fit modern times, the tone will be a little more grown-up with a documentary style approach. Honestly though, they had me at Muppets. [Nerdist]

Don’t Stop Believing. The return of The X-Files is close, you guys. Fox has announced the series will return with a special two night event with two one hour episodes airing on January 24 (at 10:00pm ET/PT) and January 25 (8:00pm ET/PT). You’ll want to mark your calendars now and if you’re feeling it, go ahead and start brainstorming party ideas because if ever an occasion deserved a themed viewing party… The six-episode event will bring back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully and other familiar faces. Ahhh!

Los Angeles Retirement. While we’re on the subject of Fox, the network has ordered Lucifer to series. Lucifer, the Lord of Hell, was introduced in The Sandman comics and went on to headline his own comic book. The TV adaptation stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer and follows him as he puts aside his leadership role in Hell and retires to Los Angeles, which some people would argue isn’t all that different (I am not one of those people, I love L.A.). The drama will debut on Fox on a to be announced date in 2016.

Hell’s Kitchen and Beyond. The success of Marvel’s Daredevil isn’t only thanks to Charlie Cox. He did one hell of a job as Matt Murdock, but the supporting cast isn’t anything to sneeze at — particularly Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. Marvel has announced that Dawson will return for the second season of Daredevil but also could appear in any of Marvel’s other Netflix original series. Look at them already setting up connections! Claire Temple, also known as Night Nurse in the comics, has ties to many of the Defenders heroes on paper and it looks like we’ll see that translate to the screen, to which I say yay! [Marvel]

Sorry, Hellblazers. Yeah, it happened. NBC has cancelled Constantine. However, fans shouldn’t hang up their trench coats just yet. Showrunner Daniel Cerone says they’re trying to find Constantine a new home on another network, and fans are rallying around the idea. To help the show’s prospects, Stephen Amell said he would guest star as Oliver Queen if Constantine gets picked up somewhere. An Arrow and Constantine crossover? I can get behind that. Another Name. The upcoming spinoff of AMC’s The Walking Dead has added a new regular cast member. Mercedes Mason (666 Park Avenue) has joined Fear the Walking Dead in an unnamed role. The series premieres this summer. [Deadline]

Burn It Down. The penultimate episode of Season 10 of Supernatural is coming our way this Wednesday, and while the show isn’t ever exactly cheerful, it’s especially tragic these days. The brothers are devastated by the death in last week’s episode (no spoilers), and devastated doesn’t go well with the Mark of Cain. Dean sets his eyes on the Stynes in “The Prisoner,” and I don’t think it’s going to end well for them. More photos from the episode at TVLine.

Questionable Decisions. After dropping some big ol’ news in the third episode of the season, Orphan Black slowed down a teeny tiny bit Saturday night. Catch up on all the interesting choices the clones made with Alicia’s recap of “Newer Elements of Our Defense.”

In the Middle. Are you torn between a group of Inhumans and S.H.I.E.L.D.? Then compared to Skye, your life isn’t so bad. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will wrap up its second season with a two-hour finale tomorrow night, May 12, and Skye is key to whatever happens next. A new poster by Joshua Budich says it all.
