TV-Cap: The Lone Gunmen Return for X-FILES Revival, New SUPERGIRL Poster, & More

Thursday is starting on a happy note because I can’t stop myself from smiling when I look at the new Supergirl poster. I feel optimistic about the series, and the poster radiates that sentiment. Take a look at the image just below and keep reading to find out about the Lone Gunmen in The X-Files revival, to learn about the latest additions to Gotham, Arrow, and Sleepy Hollow, and to see a VFX breakdown for The Flash that’s all about Grodd.

Taking Flight. Melissa Benoist will be in the Supergirl costume and on our screens as of October 26th. That’s a glorious sentence to type. And a new poster released by CBS for the series is pretty glorious, too. It shows Kara in flight, and I can’t help but be struck by how joyful it is. Also, look at those thumb holes! Dear licensees: Tell me you’re working on a Supergirl top with thumb holes. I’ll give you all my dollars for it. [TVLine]

A Little Help. The six-episode revival of The X-Files will have yet another group of familiar faces: the Lone Gunmen! Dean Haglund revealed the news and said he, Bruce Harwood, and Tom Braidwood will be shooting later this month. The group proved to be helpful to Mulder and Scully, had their own spin-off, and saved the world. I’m sure their sacrifice will be addressed in an interesting way — hopefully. [Nerdist]

A Troublesome Visitor? Sleepy Hollow has more than enough trouble to keep it busy and also weird, but a new character coming in Season 3 might add to it. Shannyn Sossamon has been cast as Pandora, a “mysterious new presence” in town who comes searching for Ichabod and Abbie. But is she that Pandora? Maybe not, but I bet she’s someone special. An Aggressive Approach. Can you believe that a year ago we didn’t know about the magic of dancing baby Groot? Guardians of the Galaxy hadn’t hit theaters yet, and we had no idea what our life was missing. The adventures of Star-Lord and company will continue in a new animated series premiering this September on Disney XD, and IGN has the first trailer. Spoilers: Rocket Raccoon is as excitable as ever. [Comic Book Resources]

Lawful Good. The Gotham City Police Department could use a firm hand, and for better or worse, they’re getting a pair of them in Season 2 of Gotham. Michael Chiklis will join the cast as Captain Nathaniel Barnes. He’s ready to clean up GCPD, and he doesn’t care if he makes enemies. Gotham producers say he’ll be an ally to Gordon…for now. [Nerdist]

So Many Opponents. I hope Oliver Queen comes back from his vacation well rested and ready to fight because the villains sure seem to be lining up for Season 4 of Arrow. The latest adversary on the roster is Reiter, also known as Baron Blitzkrieg. Baron is the fanciest title, don’t you think? Blitzkrieg will be played by Jimmy Akingbola. [TV Fanatic]

Cookie in a Cage. Does Cookie Lyons ever take a break from looking like a regal and intimidating queen? I don’t think so. She’s as intense as ever while she visits Lucious in jail in a new promo for the upcoming season of Fox’s Empire. The tease only has seconds of footage, but there’s still plenty to analyze (and over-analyze). The drama will return on September 23rd. [Variety]

Supernatural Justice. SyFy is riding into the otherworldly West with Wynonna Earp. The network has picked up a 13-episode drama based on a comic of the same name created by Beau Smith and published by IDW. The premise is that Wynonna is Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter and she uses her skills to battle supernatural forces. It’s described as “Justified meets Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” Melanie Scrofano will play Wynonna. Tim Rozon and Shamier Anderson have also been cast as Doc Holliday and Agent Dolls, respectively. [Deadline]

Shake It Off. Remember the time The Hillywood Show did a hilarious parody that mashed up Supernatural and Taylor Swift? Of course you do. How could you forget all the amazing, dancing cameos? Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki participated and they talked about joining in on the fun while they were at Comic-Con. Get their insight in the above video and then do yourself a favor and watch the parody again. It will make your day better. [Nerdist]

Building Grodd. The streets of Central City go by in a blur when Barry Allen races through them in The Flash. Just his running comes with VFX and when it comes to all the metahumans and villains he faces? Forget about it. Gorilla Grodd in particular required a lot of work. Encore VFX shared their breakdown reel showing how Grodd was built up layer by layer, and it’s seriously impressive. [/Film]

Are you happy about seeing the Lone Gunmen again? Let me know in the comments.
