TV-Cap: ROBOT CHICKEN Announces Next DC Comics Special, REVENGE Cancelled, & More

Brace yourself, friends. May is approaching—like tomorrow—and that means we’ll soon be learning the fates of television shows on the bubble. Renewals and cancellations are on the horizon, and in some cases, have already started. We’ve already seen news about Revenge and Helix, and I’m waiting with bated breath to learn about Galavant and Agent Carter. Let me know which shows you’re rooting for but before you do that, catch up on all the latest and greatest in TV world like the newest Robot Chicken DC Comics special, Seinfeld on Hulu, Ryan Phillippe’s possible Marvel role, and more.

Heroes, Villains, Stop Motion. Magical friendship isn’t reserved only for cute and fluffy ponies. No, it can happen for anyone, even the characters of Stoopid Buddy Stoodio’s Robot Chicken. They’re joining forces with DC Comics again for Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Friendship Is Magic. The third DC Comics team-up will premiere this fall on Adult Swim (and so will Season 8), and “Batman and Superman’s bromance takes a competitive turn and the fate of the universe somehow hangs in the balance!” Uh-oh. The cast for the special features a large number of insanely talented people such as Adam West, Burt Ward, Dee Bradley Baker, Weird Al Yankovic, and many others.

Not So Fast, Smarty Pants. How smart is the man known as Harrison Wells? Smarter than everyone else in the room. In this week’s The Flash, he outfoxed the entire brainy team of S.T.A.R. Labs, and I’m starting to become genuinely nervous on their behalf. Read Joseph’s review of “The Trap” and join me in being afraid. Very afraid.

It’s Bittersweet. No one does bitch face quite like Emily Thorne, but she’s almost given us her last look. The Season 4 finale of ABC’s Revenge (airing May 10) will be the series finale. ABC has cancelled the show, and though it’s a bummer–especially for those working on it–the season has at least been building towards a solid end point. [Deadline]

Spinoff Season. There’s an Arrow/Flash spinoff in the works, and there’s a rumor that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting one too. It’s like Marvel is playing the “anything you can do I can do…” game. The rumored spinoff supposedly will focus on Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, but what are the other options? Dan goes over five possibilities on the latest episode of The Dan Cave. Go watch.

Maybe Iron Fist? Marvel has announced leads for all four of its Netflix original series except for Iron Fist, but maybe Ryan Phillippe is up for the role? This is the stretchiest of stretches, but the actor was interviewed by Howard Stern this week and said he was in talks with Marvel regarding one of their Netflix shows. It’s a big leap to assume he’s talking about Iron Fist, but it’s also a big deal that Phillippe is discussing any kind of talks at all–it makes us put on our speculation hats. Breaking the Bank. Hulu’s throwing down some serious game. They’ve made a fancy deal to get the exclusive streaming rights for every episode of Seinfeld. How much did they pay? A whopping $700,000 per episode. That’s actually a bargain when you realize Netflix supposedly paid around $500,000 for each episode of Friends. Who knew there was so much money in old episodes of sitcom television? No word yet on when Seinfeld will be available on Hulu, but it will be the first time we’ll be able to stream every single episode. Go ahead and clear your calendar so you can do nothing while you watch the Seinfeld cast also doing nothing. [TV Insider]

Fear of Death. For Caitlin Doughty, working with the dead offered a better understanding of the way we live. She wrote the memoir Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: and Other Lessons about her experiences working as a mortician with an alternative funeral practice, and Paramount TV and Anonymous Content are working on turning the book into a series. Evan Dunsky (Hemlock Grove) is on board as showrunner and writer for the pilot. [Variety]

The Temptation of Power. Davina has been searching for ways to resurrect Kol, but now she’s in a position to make that dream become a real possibility. The next episode of The Originals will see her wrestle with whether she should become the most powerful witch of them all (basically) by taking on the role of Regent. It would give her the power to bring Kol back and to do a great many other things. [TV Fanatic]
