TV-Cap: Production Begins on TWIN PEAKS, SUPERGIRL Finds Its Red Tornado, & More

It’s almost Labor Day, and I point that out not because I’m excited about the long weekend, but because the date means it’s almost time for Force Friday. No, the event that will bring the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys does not have anything whatsoever to do with television news, but it’s on my mind.

Now that I’ve shared, let’s get back on topic. Check out today’s TV-Cap to get an update on the Twin Peaks revival, to see a picture of Kermit’s new girlfriend, to learn who has been cast as Red Tornado on Supergirl, and much more.

The Way It Was. The return of Twin Peaks may have been slightly delayed, but it appears as though production is in full swing in Washington. The exterior of the home of the Double R Diner, Twede’s Cafe, has been given a more retro look (pictured above) to prep for filming, and on-location shooting in North Bend, Washington is supposed to happen over the next six weeks before it moves to Los Angeles. Hello, Uncle. Game of Thrones has reportedly cast the role of Euron Greyjoy. This Greyjoy is the uncle of Theon and Yara (a.k.a. Asha if you’re a book reader), and in the books, he’s a fierce warrior who has been banished by Balon. According to a report from Watchers on the Wall, Pilou Asbæk will play the character and has already been spotted on set. [Vulture]

Bounty Hunters and Criminals. Syfy has committed to second seasons of two of its original series from the summer: Killjoys and Dark Matter. Both shows will get 13-episode sophomore seasons that will premiere in 2016. And if you’re not familiar with Killjoys, Kyle has some thoughts on why you should check it out. [TV Fanatic]

He Has a Type. Kermit and Miss Piggy have broken up, but Kermit’s found a new love interest and she’ll appear on ABC’s The Muppets. And of course, Kermit’s girlfriend is also a pig because he has a type. The frog is dating an ABC marketing executive named Denise, but he still has to work with Miss Piggy on the series. I’m sure she’s totally fine with all of this since she’s always calm and rational. Yep. The Muppets will premiere on September 22. [Oh My Disney]

Breaking Records. There’s a top spot for darn near anything you can imagine in the Guinness Book of World Records. Game of Thrones has received one of those spots in the 2016 edition of the awards book for airing the largest simultaneous broadcast of a television drama. Uh-huh, that’s a thing. The second episode of Season 5 was simulcast to 173 countries around the world. I hope Guinness made them a special Iron Throne-shaped award for the occasion. [Nerdist]

Experimental Treatment. When Showtime’s Penny Dreadful returns for Season 3, it will do so with at least one new series regular and a new face. Patti Lupone has been upped to a regular, and though she had a guest-starring role last season, she’s playing someone new moving forward — Dr. Seward. The therapist will be treating Vanessa with “an unconventional new approach.” Also, Wes Studi has joined the cast in another regular role. His character, Kaetenay, will have a connection to Ethan. [Deadline]

Season Canceled. Those of you dying to learn about what’s happening with Craig T. Nelson’s Coach Fox in his later years are about to be disappointed. NBC has decided to cancel the revival of the ’90s series Coach. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Double Personalities. Iddo Goldberg has nabbed not one, but two roles on CBS’s Supergirl. The actor will be playing both Dr. T.O. Morrow and Red Tornado. In the comics, the doctor is the creator of the android Red Tornado and it sounds as though they’ll have the same relationship in the show. CBS’s character description says, “Red Tornado is the most advanced android the world has ever seen. Designed by scientist T.O. Morrow for the U.S. Army as the ultimate superweapon, he soon becomes sentient, posing a grave danger to National City — including the people Supergirl cares about most.” I don’t know about the idea of Red Tornado as a villain, but I do very much like Goldberg’s work on Salem. In a Costume. Gotham seems to be all about the origin of villains in the Batman-verse, and as such, we haven’t really seen costumes in the Fox series. However, photos from the Season 2 premiere feature a man seemingly dressed in a Batman-inspired makeshift outfit. See more photos from the Season 2 premiere over at ComicsAlliance.

On Target. An upcoming arc of Sofia the First is getting a very special visitor: Merida! The red-headed princess from Brave will appear in “Sofia the First: The Secret Library” on October 12. [Nerdist]
