Production Begins on New TWIN PEAKS in Washington

It’s been almost one year since David Lynch and Mark Frost announced their long awaited return to Twin Peaks after 25 years, with an all-new season on Showtime. There have been some bumps along the road since then, and for a while the whole thing looked like it wasn’t happening. But thankfully, the stars aligned (and presumably, Showtime opened up its wallet) and as of September 1, it seems production on the new season of Twin Peaks has finally begun. The first move from the production crew is to bring Twede’s Cafe, best known on the series as the Double R Diner, back to its full 1990 glory.

Locals captured construction crew’s at Twede’s Cafe, removing the neon sign and giving the diner’s exterior a more retro look. Although the show is going to be set in the present day, as fans of the show know, Twin Peaks is a place where time very much stands still. Twin Peaks Archive managed to grab some photos and post them via Twitter.

As for when actual shooting starts, we don’t know for sure… but it may have actually started already. Actress Madchen Amick, who plays Shelly Johnson, a waitress at the Double R Diner, tweeted out a photo yesterday of her old waitress uniform. Looks like 25 years later, Shelly will still be serving coffee and cherry pie to the locals.

According to a report on Welcome to Twin Peaks, who spoke with the City Administrator of North Bend, WA, Lynch and company plan to shoot a total of six weeks in the area starting in September, before moving to Los Angeles. That fit with the original series to a certain extent, which shot the pilot (and exterior establishing shots) in Washington state, but filmed the bulk of the show on sets in Southern California. Although with a six-week shooting schedule, expect a lot more than just establishing shots.

As the Giant once said to Agent Cooper way back in the day…. “It is happening again.”
