Two pieces of news from The CW’s time at the Television Critics Association press tour yesterday have me feeling pretty great about comic books and TV. Matt Ryan’s Constantine gets to live onâin a small way, but I’ll take itâand Jay Garrick is coming to The Flash. We already knew that last part but seeing a promo image made it more real.
Keep reading today’s TV-Cap for more on that news, to see a photo from Season 5 of Once Upon a Time, to get an update on the Twin Peaks revival, and more.

Pull Out the Trench Coat. One of the saddest parts about Constantine being cancelled was losing Matt Ryan’s spot-on take on John Constantine. He was fantastic in the role, and happily, he’ll be returning to it. Ryan will appear in a guest role on Season 4 of Arrow. The possibility of a crossover was teased so I’m glad it’s coming to fruition, and honestly, I’d love to see Constantine pop up regularly in Starling City. [Nerdist]
Renewals. Showtime has picked up more of two of their original series; they’ve renewed Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan for fourth seasons. [Give Me My Remote]
Another Believer. The X-Files revival has resurrected a familiar name from the original series. Annabeth Gish will reprise her role as FBI Agent Monica Reyes. That of course makes you wonder whether Doggett will be back too, but at a sci-if convention back in April, Robert Patrick said, “I wanna do as many different roles that I can, and not just one thing. So the same I feel about with John Doggett and the X-Files. I’m doing a new show right now called Scorpion, that I love. And Iâd much rather be doing that show than going backwards and revisiting a character that Iâve already done.” So, no Doggett? [Deadline and Den of Geek]
I Am… Any story that centers on Groot is automatically interesting to me because of Groot’s limited vocabulary. Stories about him have to be handled a little differently. Marvel and Disney XD are sharing origin stories leading into the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, and there’s one all about your favorite sentient tree creature–as told by Rocket Raccoon. Perfect. Part one of Groot’s beginnings are embedded above and you can watch part two of the origin story right here at Nerdist.
A Visitor from the Past. A woman from Oliver Queen’s past will appear in Season 4 of Arrow, and Elysia Rotaru has been cast in the mysterious role. She has a recurring role in the flashbacks so need to worry about Olicity. Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly, “Oliver is gonna have a love interest in the past that will serve as a parallel or potentially a contrast to his love affair with Felicity in the present.” [TVLine]
A Helping Hand. While we’re on the topic of Arrow, let’s look at Stephen Amell’s visit to WWE Monday Night RAW. Amell jumped into the ring to take on Stardust and it’s kind of awesome–I say this as a person who doesn’t really watch wrestling. Keep an eye on the background for the great sign featuring David Ramsey’s John Diggle. [Comic Book Resources]
Building a Life. The CW seems to be all about comic books and the supernatural these days, but they also like romance. They’re developing a television series based on the film The Notebook, which is based on a book by Nicholas Sparks. That’s a lot of based on. The series would tell the story of Noah and Allie (played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the movie) as they begin their life together. [The Hollywood Reporter]
In Training. The end of Season 4 of Once Upon a Time left Emma in a dark place. No, really. She’s the new Dark One, or the Dark Swan. She has to get a grip on her powers, and it looks like she’s learning from none other than the previous Dark One, Rumplestiltskin. Huh. [Entertainment Weekly]

Hold That Cup. If you’ve been wondering just what’s happening with Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival, you’ll be relieved to know Showtime President David Nevins has an update. At the Television Critics Association press tour, he said the series will begin shooting in September in Washington and Los Angeles. He said they’re hoping to make the 2016 premiere but acknowledged it could take longer. Get further information from Nevins right this way.
It’s All Happening. Are you ready for all the Flashes in one place? I can’t believe we’re going to see Jay Garrick on TV, guys! The CW announced the casting of Teddy Sears as Garrick for Season 2 of The Flash last month, but look at the promo image they’ve released to tease his arrival! How cool is that? It’s a re-creation of the cover of The Flash #123. It features Barry, Jay, and newcomer Patty Spivot (played by Shantel VanSanten). [Nerdist]
What do you think about the return of Constantine? Are you happy the character and Ryan get to return this way? Let me know in the comments.
