TV-Cap: Marvel Casts IRON FIST, CRUEL INTENTIONS Nabs Sarah Michelle Gellar, and More

We’re sending out this fine last week of February with all of the television news. All of it, guys. I counted. I’ll stop talking now so you can dive into this week’s TV-Cap to learn about which Game of Thrones vet has been cast in Iron Fist, to hear more about Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Cruel Intentions TV series, to see a new trailer for season three of Penny Dreadful, and much more.

All Over the Place. FX is bringing what looks like a bananas/awesome limited series set in 1814 to television, and it stars the likes of Tom Hardy and Jonathan Pryce. Come on. Hardy is James Keziah Delaney in Taboo, a man who returns home to London from Africa after years away “to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself.” But things aren’t so simple. Are they ever? [Nerdist]

Making the Jump. Madeleine Stowe starred in the film 12 Monkeys, and now she’s switching roles and coming to the series on Syfy. She’ll play a patient in a mental asylum in the late ’50s in season two of the show, but you’ll hear her first as she narrates the opening of the premiere on April 18. A Different Adaptation. Stephen King’s The Mist has been adapted before as a film, but now Spike is working with Christian Torpe to bring it to television. They’ve ordered a pilot, but there aren’t details available yet on which direction they’ll take the story. [Nerdist]

Breaking It Down. Season two of Daredevil is arriving to Netflix on March 18, and that means teasers are popping up regularly. The most recent full length trailer gave us glimpses of both Punisher and Elektra, and Matt Mira breaks down what they’re doing in Hell’s Kitchen and more in Nerdist News. [Nerdist]

She’s Back. NBC has seriously scored with their TV sequel to the Cruel Intentions film. Sarah Michelle Gellar has agreed to come back as Kathryn Merteuil. This time around, she’s looking to manipulate Bash Casey, the son of Sebastian and Annette. She was the most delightful part of the film so this is excellent news. [Nerdist]

Haunting But Beautiful. Showtime’s creepy and gorgeous Penny Dreadful will be back with its third season on May 1. A new trailer shows a peek of some of the bizarre occurrences and action ahead. What are you most looking forward to about season three? [Nerdist, Image: Showtime]

To Curse or Not. Jesus was just introduced on AMC’s The Walking Dead, but everyone’s really looking forward to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan arrive as Negan in the season six finale. In the comics, Negan’s a total potty-mouth, and Entertainment Weekly asked Morgan about how much profanity they use in the series. Morgan said, “We’re going to push AMC — the plan is to push them as far as they can because it’s who Negan is. He uses some colorful language. And I use some colorful language. And reading the comic, it’s important. So we’ll see where that lands.” Read more of Morgan’s and the producers’ comments on the Negan cursing issue (because that’s a thing) at Entertainment Weekly.

The Landscape’s Changed. Season two of Outlander is a “whole new show” according to star Sam Heughan. He and Caitriona Balfe talked to Entertainment Weekly about Jamie and Claire’s life in France and the challenges before them. Things are going to be far from simple. [Nerdist]

Iron Fist Found. With all the buzz for Netflix’s Marvel series centering on Daredevil and Jessica Jones these days, it’s easy to forget about Iron Fist. That show doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but Netflix is one step closer because they’ve cast Daniel Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist. He’ll be played by Finn Jones, who you might know as Loras Tyrell from Game of Thrones. [Nerdist]

Staying Warm. An iconic villain is on its way to Gotham: Mr. Freeze. He has a sad origin story—he just wants to save his wife from terminal illness. A new featurette introduces Freeze and his desperate attempts to keep his love alive. The cast comments on the arrival of the character in the video, too. Gotham comes back with an icy touch on February 29. [Nerdist]

Dial It Back. Did you get to spend Thursday evening in your most comfy recliner relaxing and watching TV? We did, and we have recaps of Vikings (queenly claims!), The 100 (betrayal!), and Legends of Tomorrow (a 2046 version of Oliver Queen!).

Do you have opinions on the Iron Fist casting or anything else mentioned in today’s TV-Cap? Sound off in the comments.
