TV-Cap: George R.R. Martin Not Writing for GAME OF THRONES Season 6, Yvette Nicole Brown Back on COMMUNITY, & More

Did anyone else have trouble sleeping last night after watching Game of Thrones? “Hardhome” was exhilarating and terrifying, and one of the best hours of television I’ve seen recently—definitely the best of Season 5 of Game of Thrones so far. With those important compliments out of the way, let’s get to today’s TV-Cap. I have news about George R.R. Martin and Season 6 of Game of Thrones, rumors about a Stephen Amell and Stardust smackdown, a teaser for Ash vs. Evil Dead, and more.

You Have Failed This Ring. Things can escalate quickly when wrestling is involved, and in the case of WWE’s Stardust and Arrow’s Stephen Amell, some back and forth jabs on Twitter might have turned into an actual fight. Stardust called out Amell on Raw Fallout on May 25 and challenged him to a fight–please watch the above video to be highly entertained. Given that challenge, it’s now being reported that Amell will wrestle Stardust at WWE’s SummerSlam in August. No one involved has confirmed the match, but it would be interesting to see a real life (ish) version of the Superhero Fight Club promos from The CW. [Comic Book Resources]

She’s Back! The Greendale campus is about to get a little brighter because Yvette Nicole Brown is returning for the Season 6 finale of Community. Yay for more Shirley! Seth Green will also make an appearance. The episode, titled “Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television,” airs on June 2. [TVLine]

A Soul at Stake. Outlander has wrapped Season 1, and it isn’t a finale anyone is likely to forget anytime soon. The brutal hour saw the torture of Jamie Fraser at the hands of Black Jack Randall and to say it got ugly is the understatement of the… well, forever. If you’ve watched the episode, read Alicia’s recap of “To Ransom a Man’s Soul.” Please be aware there are spoilers and a discussion about sexual violence.

Play It Again. Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon) has announced the premiere date for Season 2 of Empire. Get ready for more music and drama on September 23 on Fox. [Give Me My Remote]

The Winds Are Calling. It’s no secret that George R.R. Martin is taking some time to focus on completing the sixth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire, The Winds of Winter. To that end, he didn’t write an episode of Season 5 of Game of Thrones even though he’s been writing an episode a season. And we now know he won’t be penning a script for Season 6. I’m bummed but at the same time, it has to be tricky for him to write for the series when they’ll be beyond what’s happened in the books and/or going in a different direction. [Nerdist]

It’s Not Wicked. The phrase “comic book series being developed for television” is becoming more and more common, and I think it’s wonderful. The latest title headed for adaptation is Image Comics’s The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Matt Wilson. Universal Television has opted rights for the series and will produce through Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Milkfed Criminal Masterminds. I love that more non-Marvel and DC Comics titles are being considered for TV. [Deadline]

It’s Groovy. No one wields a chainsaw like Ash, and we’ll get to see more of Bruce Campbell in the fan-favorite role this fall on Starz. We’ve seen key art from Ash vs. Evil Dead and now there’s a teaser. Emphasis on tease. Brief as it is, I can’t deny feeling giddy about seeing Ash’s chainsaw and hearing him say, “Groovy.” [Nerdist]

Father On Board. Don’t lose any more sleep worrying about whether Bob Saget will reprise his role as Danny Tanner for Fuller House. John Stamos confirmed on Twitter that Saget will join the reunion but didn’t state how many episodes he’ll appear in. At this point, all the primary cast members from the original series are set to return except for the Olsen twins. [TV Fanatic]

A Momentous Occasion. Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) are about to put their research out there in Showtime’s Masters of Sex. The third season of the series has taken a jump forward in time, and the duo is about to publish Human Sexual Response. Season 3 doesn’t premiere until July 12, but you can see a teaser of what’s ahead over at Entertainment Weekly.

Do you want to see Amell wrestle Stardust? Do you keep thinking of the Neil Gaiman book whenever you see Stardust referenced? Head to the comments and weigh in.
