In today’s TV-Cap, I get to share a live-action take on Red Tornado and talk about a new TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. Monday is off to a fine start, don’t you think? Keep reading to catch up on all latest and greatest in television news that you may have missed over the weekend including the two items mentioned plus news about a same-sex relationship coming to Once Upon a Time, a Twin Peaks casting addition, and more.
The Android. Iddo Goldberg is playing Dr. T.O. Morrow, a.k.a. Red Tornado, on CBS’s Supergirl, and they’re going all in when it comes to his costume. Designs so far in the world of DC Comics on television have been a touch understated but not here, and I like it. The first photo shows they are going with a darker red, but the android’s appearance is decidedly comic book-y (the technical term). When Red Tornado appears in Supergirl, he’ll be a threat, but I hope we’ll see him become an ally and/or a mentor eventually. Supergirl premieres on October 26. [Nerdist]
Finally! Once Upon a Time has touched upon the topic of same-sex relationships before by revealing Mulan’s feelings for Aurora, but they’ll finally be showcasing a same-sex relationship in season five. Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz confirmed a love story in the coming season during a press screening of the season premiere but mentioned it might not necessarily involve Mulan and Aurora. [TVLine]
A Mystery Role. News coming from the Twin Peaks set has slowed down since David Lynch expressed unhappiness about all the spoilers finding their way online, but it’s not possible to keep everything under wraps. For example, Amanda Seyfried has been spotted on set. We don’t know anything about who she’s playing, but it seems likely that the Veronica Mars alumnus is indeed involved in the revival. [Nerdist]
Urban Legends. The relationship between Barry Allen and Joe West is one of many aspects I love about The Flash, and they way Joe reacts to Barry talking about a man who can bend steel and a man who talks to fish in this deleted scene from The Flash pilot is charming and perfect. Poor weirdo Barry. You can see this deleted scene and more when the season one Blu-ray becomes available on September 22. [Nerdist]
Yep, It’s True. Jenna Coleman is officially done with Doctor Who. She confirmed rumors about her exit during an interview on BBC Radio 1 with Nick Grimshaw. She said it’s been in the works for a very long time (at least a year and a half ago), and that her departure will happen at some point this season. She’s already filmed her last scenes. [TV Fanatic]
The Doctor’s Back. Clara may be leaving in the future, but not just yet, since season nine of Doctor Who just started. “The Magician’s Apprentice” aired over the weekend and received high marks from our resident Whovian Kyle. I don’t want to give anything about the episode away so as long as you’ve watched it, go read Kyle’s full review of the season nine premiere.
Strange Things. The co-creator of Sleepy Hollow is taking a journey to another strange world: The Island of Doctor Moreau. Phillip Iscove is adapting the book from H.G. Wells as a television series for CBS. Iscove is setting the story in the present and swapping the gender of Doctor Moreau (yay!). Dr. Katherine Moreau will be the center of the show, and she’ll have a privately funded island hospital for her uh, experiments. [Nerdist]

Who’s Inhuman? If you’ve been paying even a small amount of attention to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you know that the Inhumans are kind of a big deal. The group was a significant part of the season two storyline, but they’re taking a larger role headed into season three — judging by the way the word “Inhuman” is wedged into all the promotion. ABC recently released a new image asking “Are You Inhuman?” (Marvel also used this tagline to promote their Inhuman comics once) and new images of the cast. Mind the Gap. I’ve possible saved the best news for last today. Francis Lawrence has signed on as executive producer and director for a TV series based on Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. Heck. Yes. The book was once adapted for BBC, but there’s room for more interpretations, right? The show is only in development stages for now — we’ll keep you posted.
