TV-Cap: First Look at HANNIBAL Season 3, George A. Romero’s EMPIRE OF THE DEAD Heads to TV, and More

The number of undead in the zombie horde in television and film has to be gigantic. I wasn’t sure if the world needed any more stories focused on zombies, but then iZombie came along with its quirk, charm, and refreshing tone and my mind was changed. So now, I’m more open to new zombie series–especially ones based on George A. Romero stories. His comic, Empire of the Dead, is coming to television. Keep reading to learn more about that, to get a look at Season 3 of Hannibal, to see photos from American Crime Story, and more.

Jumping Ahead. Hannibal returns for Season 3 on June 4, and it looks as elegant and twisted as ever. NBC’s released a look at what’s ahead with commentary from the cast, including the Francis Dolarhyde story. Ahhh! [TV Fanatic]

The Future. Disney’s Tomorrowland is in theaters today, May 22, and the release of the film seems like the right time to look back. Do you remember the Disneyland TV series that delivered some sly advertising for the park, including a Tomorrowland segment? If not, Kyle has you covered with this post.

More Man Than a Horse. Everyone’s favorite horse-man combo is returning to Netflix this summer. Season 2 of BoJack Horseman will arrive on the streaming service on July 17. Will Arnett will reprise his role as BoJack, the former TV star wrestling with alcohol, drugs, and depression. He has a starring role in Secretariat now, but it remains to be seen whether life will get better. Returning cast members for Season 2 include Aaron Paul, Todd Chavez, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, and Paul F. Tompkins. [Variety]

Senior Year. Will things get really good or really bad? It’s a simple question but descriptive enough. It looks like Season 5 of MTV’s Teen Wolf will have a scary villain, and the trailer emphasizes that things are going to change. Teen Wolf will have a two part premiere airing on June 29 and June 30. Mo’ Zombies. If you’re at familiar with the shambling zombie genre, you know the name George A. Romero. Besides helming films like Night of the Living Dead, he and artist Alex Maleev worked on a comic series for Marvel called Empire of the Dead. And now, Demarest is planning to adapt the comic for television. It has zombies and also vampires. Romero and Peter Grunwald will write the script. [Comic Book Resources]

Another Return. Heroes Reborn is coming back with a few familiar faces, and according to Entertainment Weekly, that includes Greg Grunberg. He’s reportedly returning for a guest star arc as Matt Parkman, the telepathic detective. It’s going to be fun to have the band back together. [TVLine]

The Glove Fits. When the O.J. Simpson trial was going on in the mid-90s, it dominated television and newspapers for almost a year. It’s time to revisit the event with Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson. Entertainment Weekly just released the first official photos from The FX mini-series showing Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Cuba Gooding Jr. as OJ Simpson, John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, and Billy Magnussen as Kato Kaelin. After you’ve seen all the pics, head to Business Insider to see the cast photos next to the actual people. Schwimmer’s hair is amazingly spot on, and Magnussen looks a lot like Kaelin. [Oh No They Didn’t]

Going Back in Time. Marvel’s Agent Carter did an excellent job of immersing viewers in the period setting, and the music contributed to that. Composer Christopher Lennertz was responsible for keeping the music on point for the series that’s more about spies than superheroes. Deadline spoke to Lennertz about capturing Carter’s spirit and one instrument that was well, instrumental, to doing so. Read the interview here.

Back to Season 1 Basics. Sleepy Hollow is going back to its roots for Season 3, and that’s a good move. The writers are actively exploring the tone and ideas that worked so well in the first season, and if you need some reassurance, read this interview with executive producer Heather Kadin at Give Me My Remote. She discusses the focus for Season 3 and what fans can expect.
