Take a deep breath, everyone. We’re sliding into a weekend that will be packed with entertainment news. We’re off to a decent start, but it’s nothing like the deluge on the way because, Comic-Con. Today’s TV-Cap will whet your appetite with the first image from the adaptation of The Shannara Chronicles, a new promo for Supergirl, a trailer for Showtime’s Billions, and much more.
Take a Torch. When you think about which networks would be your top pick to air a fantasy series, you probably don’t consider MTV. But, they’re hard at work on The Shannara Chronicles–it’s based on the fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. The show stars three elves who fight against demons as a magical tree that kept the demons away starts to die. MTV took to Twitter to release the first image of those elves ahead of Comic-Con. To the Small Screen! The Epix original comedy Graves has found its leading lady. Susan Sarandon will star opposite of Nick Nolte in the 10-episode series from Joshua Michael Stern. Nolte plays former President of the United States Richard Graves and Sarandon will portray his wife Margaret. If Sarandon’s in it, I’m checking it out. Graves will premiere in fall 2016. [Variety]
Lost No More. The sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, called “Lost Missions,” went straight to Netflix. The series was canceled after Season 5 so the new episodes never aired on Cartoon Network (the home of the series before Disney bought Lucasfilm). However, they’re finally headed to Disney XD; the 13 episodes will start airing on Sunday, July 12, at 9:00am ET/PT. [Facebook]

Making a Splash. The pilot of Supergirl premiered last night at Comic-Con, and it’s getting rather favorable reactions. Ahhh! I’m excited. I know it’s not the same, but if you weren’t lucky enough to be among the crowds who got a sneak peek, you can at least enjoy a new promo from CBS—lots of things blow up and Kara looks like a badass. Crossing a Line. Comedy Central is getting South Park to an impressive milestone. They’ve renewed the animated series for three more seasons, which means it will hit 300 episodes. That’s a whole lot of off-color jokes and gags. Yowza. The deal carries the show until 2019 and into its 23rd season. How many more times will Kenny die? Is that even still a thing? [Variety]

Not Out of the Woods. Getting old can be painful, and that’s especially true if you live in the tranquil town of Pretty Lake. In the Netflix series Between, everyone over the age of 21 is wiped out by a mysterious disease (mysterious diseases are often the worst kind of diseases), and the kids aren’t clear to leave quarantine yet because the series has been renewed for a second season. VFX Magic. Remember the time all the White Walkers attacked in Game of Thrones? Of course you do. The Massacre at Hardhome is the sort of sequence that sticks in your brain for better or worse. The scary battle was made from a combo of practical effects and CGI, and digital effects studio El Ranchito released a video showing how they transformed the landscape. It’s stunning. [Nerdist]
Yay Genre Stories! Remember how we recently reported that Universal Cable Productions (UCP) signed a first-look deal with Dark Horse Entertainment? They’re also going after other genre stories. UCP has teamed up with Warren Ellis and Gale Anne Hurt to adapt the 1970s vigilante comic El Pantera as a television series. [Comic Book Resources]
Another Renewal! The Internet is full of good news today. Sundance’s Rectify is kicking off Season 3 today, but they’ve already received a renewal for Season 4. It’s a delightful thing to settle into a new season of a series knowing there will be more, isn’t it? [TVLine]
Consequences. Money can lead to so many problems, and Showtime’s upcoming series Billions is all about those dollar bills and the drama that comes with them. It stars Paul Giamatti as U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and Damien Lewis as hedge fund billionaire Bobby Axelrod. A trailer for the show is intense and gripping. Serious Paul Giamatti is rather tremendous—and frightening. [Vulture]
