Back to the world of television, enjoy a beautiful promo image for Season 9 of Doctor Who, a new teaser for Supergirl showing Kara’s Kryptonian mom, an update on the future of Community, and much more.
Explosions and Happiness. Season 9 of Doctor Who is practically around the corner, and as such, BBC has released a grand promo image. I love when they release these because they always look so cinematic. Here, the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald are running away from a messy explosion hand-in-hand, and that basically says it all–or does it? Read Kyle’s analysis of the image right this way.
Gathering Followers. The sad fact that Hannibal is coming to an end means the actors in the series are pursuing other opportunities, and Hugh Dancy has found his next gig. He’s joined Hulu’s upcoming drama from Jason Katims titled The Way. Dancy is slated to play Cal Roberts in the 10-episode series. Roberts is a cult leader and the public face of The Way–a faith-based movement at the heart of the show. Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan are also set to star. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Lucy Lane and Kara’s Mom. CBS’s Supergirl has found their Lucy Lane. The character is Lois Lane’s younger sister and also James Olsen’s ex. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: No love triangles, please and thank you. Anyway! Jenna Dewan-Tatum (Witches of East End) has been cast in the role. Lucy is coming to National City to “right a previous wrong.” And while we’re on the topic of Supergirl, the above promo has the briefest glimpse of Kara’s Kryptonian mom. But a Movie? Yahoo Screen swooped in to pick Community up for a sixth season, but a seventh return to Greendale Community College might not be possible. In an interview with Metro Weekly, Joel McHale said the show won’t be back, citing an increase in the actors’ pay rate that Yahoo can’t afford. “… There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.” Yahoo released a statement that basically said “not so fast” and that discussions are still on the table. The Big Bad. The first season of The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow will see heroes and villains working to stop Vandal Savage. Besides having quite the impressive name, Savage is immortal, evil, and formidable. And he’ll be played by someone with an equally rad name because Casper Crump has just been cast in the role. He’ll make his first appearance on The Flash and Arrow before Legends premieres during the mid-season hiatus for those shows. [Nerdist]
Fun and Games. Season 1 of ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder dropped on DVD yesterday, August 4th, and there’s no better way to celebrate a DVD release than with a gag reel. You can get a glimpse of the laughs and silliness behind-the-scenes of the drama in the above clip.
In the Family. One of Netflix’s many upcoming original series is Aziz Ansari’s Master of None. Ansari created the sitcom with Alan Yang and stars in it. Season 1 will drop on November 6th, and Ansari and Yang discussed the premise, the guest stars, how Ansari’s real mom and dad are in the show, and more at the Television Critics Association press tour. The Band is Back Together. CSI is coming to a close this fall. The two-hour series finale will air on September 27th. It’s not always easy to say farewell, but at least the procedural had a long run and paved the way for many others. The finale recently filmed, and Marg Helgenberger tweeted a couple of pics from set. One of them shows the CSI’s five original characters back together again. Ah, memories. Arrow vs. Stardust? Stephen Amell and pro wrestler Stardust have been trading jabs since Memorial Day. Their feud could only lead to one result: Amell is appearing on WWE’s Monday Night Raw on August 10th. The Arrow star has to end up facing Stardust in the ring, right? Always the Badass. Whether she’s playing the warrior princess Xena or tough mom and vice principal Diane, Lucy Lawless always looks like she could kick your ass in at least 50 different ways. That applies to a new image of her as Ruby in Starz’s Ash vs. Evil Dead. Lawless told Entertainment Weekly Ruby is “a bad bitch and she’s stalking Ash Williams. She’s got a big chip on her shoulder and a hot obsession.” [Nerdist]
