Since I know you’re still trying to process all of the sweet reveals from the Video Game Awards and PlayStation Experience, I’ve compiled a list of a couple of today’s highlights. In today’s Gaming Daily, a Half Life 2 RTS game has hit Steam, several Amiibos have been discontinued and people are still reacting to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII reveal at PSX.

What Half Life 2 would look like as a strategy game. 

If you’re wondering what to do with yourself before Half Life 3 finally makes an appearance, this one is for you. The mod formerly known as HL2: Wars has been re-dubbed Lambda Wars and was released today as a free download on Steam.

According to the website, “Lambda Wars is a free multiplayer Source Engine modification for Alien Swarm set in the Half-Life 2 universe that brings the war between mankind and their brutal Combine overlords to a traditional real-time strategy (RTS) setting. Lead the uprising as a commander of the Resistance or crush the rebellion as an overlord of the Combine, with both factions featuring a full host of units, abilities, buildings, research and defenses. Lambda Wars features full-fledged RTS gameplay and a robust RTS interface and is focused on multiplayer but strategic AI opponents and dedicated singleplayer missions are also included.”

If you’re familiar with the older version, the Steam beta brings a couple of changes including a complete overhaul of the in-game menu UI systems as well as a revised multiplayer matchmaking system. It will remain in beta for a while because the developers are looking for feedback, which seems quite common these days.

Nintendo discontinues certain amiibos.

If you were thinking about picking up the Villager, Marth or Wii Fit trainer amiibos good luck because they appear to have been discontinued. After Canadian game store Video Game Plus tweeted about the news over the weekend, Nintendo informed Kotaku that a couple of the figures “likely will not return to the market” once they’ve sold out.

After only being released a couple of weeks ago it’s curious that these figures are leaving the market so soon. Though they did not comment on which figures would be discontinued, they stated “We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”

Although the shelf space excuse makes sense, its a real shame Nintendo didn’t mention that they would be doing this so soon. The figures are already impossible to find in stores so you’re pretty much out of luck unless you want to spend an arm and a leg online.

People are still reacting to the disappointing Final Fantasy VII announcement. 

While there was a lot of great stuff revealed at the PlayStation keynote this weekend, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII reveal continues to disappoint. If you’re not aware of what we’re talking about, watch the video above and prepare for heartbreak.

Instead of the remake fans have be waiting for, the PC port will be ported to the PS4. At least the graphics will be upscaled. Right? Though it’s an odd move for Square, one thing is for sure: people will buy it anyways.
