TV-Cap: DOCTOR WHO Brings Matt Lucas as Recurring Character

Another day, more television news. It’s like we knew there would be regular buzz when we started TV-Cap. In case this is your first visit, TV-Cap is where you can get the latest and greatest headlines in the realm of TV every single weekday. Today we’re talking about Matt Lucas’ return to Doctor Who, Game of Thrones episode descriptions, and some ace casting in American Gods. Let’s get to it.

A Jolly Face. Matt Lucas appeared on Doctor Who in the most recent Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song.” He played Nardole. And the character’s story isn’t finished! Lucas has a semi-regular role in series 10. BBC didn’t say how many episodes Lucas will appear in or how Nardole will return, but it’s still cool news, no? [Nerdist]

Stacking Up. Hulu’s Dimension 404 has added two more names to the cast. The sci-fi anthology series has booked Joel McHale and Sarah Hyland for two different episodes. McHale will play Mr. Maker, the founder of a matchmaking company, and Hyland will play Chloe, a teen who goes to a sci-fi action film touting a new format and has a dangerous experience. The series has also announced Lea Michele and Robert Buckley. [Variety]

Another Hulu Win. Speaking of Hulu, the streaming service has grabbed an exclusive from A&E. Hulu will be the only streaming home for A&E’s remake of the miniseries Roots; they haven’t given a release date yet. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Some Clues. When HBO released episode information for the final two episodes of Game of Thrones, they provided absolutely no descriptions. It’s all under wraps. However, a Redditor found some information thanks to synopses submitted for Emmy consideration. The words for “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter” are still vague as can be, but it’s better than nothing. You can see both descriptions and read some speculation at Nerdist. Believe in Extras. The Blu-ray for The X-Files limited series has arrived, and Kyle has the scoop on the commentary tracks and special features. Learn about the ins and outs of the Blu-ray release right this way.

It’s Back! Raise a glass to all things good and great because HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back for season nine. In the press release announcing the series’ return, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said they’re thrilled David is doing a new season. David said, “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” No word yet on which characters will return, but we’ll keep you posted when more details are available. Layers within Layers. The reality of various aspects of Mr. Robot is difficult to track, and one scene in season two will be even trickier. NBC Universal Cable Entertainment chief content officer Jeff Wachtel appeared at Variety’s TV Summit and said, “We just shot a VR scene for Mr. Robot… It’s really about storytelling. It’s intimate and about the characters.” It makes sense to bring that element into the inventive series, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out. [Variety]

Fighters Found? In case you’ve forgotten, Jeremy Renner has a series coming to History. Renner is executive producing Knightfall, a story about the Knights Templar. It has a 10 episode order, and the cast is building. Sabrina Bartlett, Julian Ovenden, Padraic Delaney, and more have been added. Get the full list of expansions at Deadline.

Meet Salim. Starz has filled another role on its adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Omid Abtahi (Damien) will play Salim; the character becomes a taxi driver in the book. Salim is a kind man but a little downtrodden by the experiences he’s had since he came to the United States. Abtahi will have a recurring role in season one. [Deadline]
