TV-Cap: Celebrate 10 Years of the Modern DOCTOR WHO, Meet ORPHAN BLACK’S Castor Clones, & More

A marvelous thing happened 10 years ago. On March 26, 2005, we met the Ninth Doctor. The modern era of Doctor Who was ushered in, and it’s been one heck of a ride over the last decade. The anniversary is an occasion worth celebrating, so today’s TV news round-up features a wonderful fan-made tribute to Who because we all need to experience feelings today. You’ll also find a video about Orphan Black’s Castor clones, a teaser showing Mark Hamill’s upcoming appearance on The Flash, and more. Allons-y!

Then and Now. The modern era of Doctor Who has given us the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), the War Doctor (John Hurt), and the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi). They’ve all had companions, villains, and enough memorable quotes to fill a book. David (YouTuber VG934) has edited together a highlights reel from the last 10 years that gives me goose bumps. I want to watch it over and over and then go get out all my DVDs.

The X-Files Scoop. As mentioned yesterday, The X-Files is returning! We get six more episodes of Mulder and Scully and the paranormal. It’s all happening, guys. But what will those episodes contain? Jessica Chobot breaks it all down in yesterday’s Nerdist News.

Playing 40. Adam Brody (The O.C.) has been cast as the lead of an upcoming untitled comedy pilot from CBS. The pilot was written by Dan O’Shannon and Peter Warren and focuses on Andrew (Brody), a 40-year-old man who starts to believe in happy endings again after seeing his childhood crush. Fingers crossed CBS doesn’t go in the Ted Mosby direction again. [Deadline]

Project Castor. We know about the existence of the Castor clones and that they seem like loose cannons, but we don’t have much information on their history. That will change in Season 3 of Orphan Black. A new tease from BBC America is all about Project Castor and if anything, I’m feeling more scared. [Nerdist]

Look No Further. HBO has announced they’re canceling Looking. The drama starring Jonathan Groff has been on for two seasons and unfortunately hasn’t been pulling in big numbers. The network won’t leave fans completely hanging though; they plan to tie up loose ends with a special. [Hitfix]

Up to Old Tricks. Just one week, I’d like to see Barry Allen have some time off. I don’t think it would be boring to watch him drink coffee and work in the lab, but maybe I’m the only one. In next week’s episode of The Flash, Barry encounters James Jesse, a.k.a. Trickster. Mark Hamill is playing the character, and actually, he’s reprising the role since he was Trickster in The Flash series in the early ’90s. The above clip shows Trickster is as wacky as ever. [CBR]

President Ash. Bruce Campbell will appear in one episode of Season 2 of Fargo, and his role is something else. Campbell will be playing Ronald Reagan (remember, the next season of Fargo is going back to 1979). Yeah, I think he’s going to make a swell president. [/Film]

Committed to the Job. Liv isn’t your average zombie. She eats and brains and then get visions and abilities tied to the person those brains belonged to. She’s using her skills to help solve murder cases, and things get complicated in next week’s episode of iZombie titled “The Exterminator.” See the entire photo gallery at TV Fanatic.

I feel like watching all of Eccleston’s Doctor Who episodes now. What are your favorite episodes of the modern Doctor Who era? Let us know in the comments.

  1. IDenz says:

In 1979 Ronald Reagan was only running for President, he wasn’t elected until 1980, and wasn’t sworn in until early 1981.  Still, Bruce Campbell can do the role justice.  Plus, I agree that Bruce Campbell would make a great president.
