It’s Monday, and I’m trying my best to start the week on the right foot. I’m going to need more coffee to accomplish that goal, but today’s TV news is certainly helping. Keep reading to see some awesome deleted fight seasons from Season 3 of Arrow, to read about an emoji game show (really), to get details on American Horror Story: Hotel, and so much more.
Deleted But Not Forgotten. Arrow has delivered impressive stunts since Season 1. The choreography and the way the fights are shot have only gotten better over time–you feel like you’re in the middle of the action each time Oliver Queen goes after an opponent. But not all planned sequences make it the final cut, and in a new video released by The CW, Arrow’s fight coordinator James Bamford shows off some moves from Season 3 that were deleted. Watching people beat each other up is a fine way to start the week. [Comic Book Resources]
Emojis Taking Over. Emojis dot many of my text conversations, but even though I like the little characters, I don’t need them to leave my phone. Some people apparently do, because there’s an animated film about emojis in the works from Sony, and now, there’s The Great Emoji Challenge. It’s a primetime comedy game show, and it’s being pitched to studios. The idea is that contestants have the opportunity to win money if they can decode emojis. [Deadline]
A Relation. Skip ahead now if you don’t want to be at all spoiled about The X-Files revival. TVLine has learned that an important figure in Scully’s life will be appearing in the limited return of the series: Margaret Scully. Sheila Larken will once again play Scully’s mom, and she’ll appear in the second episode (the show will premiere on January 24th). [TVLine]
Get Tissues. Last week marked Jon Stewart’s last time hosting The Daily Show. Yes, it is a tragedy. Goodbyes are emotional times, and the final show hit the warm and fuzzy notes so hard. Case in point: Stephen Colbert’s farewell to Stewart. Grab tissues before you press play on the above video to watch the tribute and a group hug. [Nerdist]
Talking a Big Game. The Late Show will be back with new episodes on September 8th, and it will return with a new host. Colbert has taken the reins from David Letterman, and CBS isn’t kidding around when it comes to promotion. They’ve released a big screen sized trailer to air in movie theaters, and in it, Colbert laments their lack of 3D effects and a CGI dragon–it’s pretty hilarious and you probably need a laugh after watching Colbert say goodbye to Jon Stewart. Watch the promo at /Film.
Premiering On… I can’t believe fall television season is almost here; it feels like I just watched finales. New episodes will arrive soon, and FX has announced the premiere dates for their fall line-up. Their new show The Bastard Executioner will debut on September 15th at 10:00pm, American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere on October 7th at 10:00pm, and Season 2 of Fargo will drop on October 12th at 10:00pm. In other words, keep your 10:00pm hour clear. [Give Me My Remote]
The Guest Book. Speaking of American Horror Story: Hotel, FX brought the series to the Television Critics Association press tour. Series co-creator Ryan Murphy shared some information about the many characters on the series at the event and oh boy, there’s a lot going on. Murphy said some familiar faces from past seasons of American Horror Story will start showing up in the sixth episode and the universe will become more connected. As for the new characters: Lady Gaga is the star of the upcoming season. She plays Elizabeth, the hotelâs owner. Kathy Bate’s character Iris runs the hotel for her. That’s just the trip of the iceberg. Read more about the characters right this way.
Still Contagious. Season 2 of FX’s The Strain is only a handful of episodes in, but the network has already greenlit Season 3. The books the show is based on are a trilogy, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the series is limited to three seasons. Executive producer Carlton Cuse told Collider in July, “The plan is that the show will run somewhere between three and five seasons… Weâre definitely writing to an endpoint, and weâre following the path as established in Guillermo and Chuckâs novels, but obviously thereâs a lot thatâs also going to be added.” [TVLine]
Happy Birthday! August 8th was the birthday of the eight strangers who come together in Sense8, and Netflix celebrated the day in style by renewing the show from J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowskis for a second season. You can watch a happy birthday message from the cast right here.
Dangerous Furniture. So, here’s the thing. A book called Horrorstör exists–it’s by Grady Hendrix–and said book is about an Ikea-esque furniture superstore called ORSK that preys upon what its customers want and gives them their dreams and fantasies. As you might guess from the “Horror” portion of the title, they don’t hand out dreams like, say, Disney. It’s supernatural and creepy. An adaptation of this book is in development for Fox. They’ve ordered a pilot for the dramedy written by Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and Michael Vukadinovich. I hope the set decorator rents lots of furniture from Ikea for the pilot. [Deadline]
Turn It Up. Are you ready to party hard and listen to the music? Then HBO’s Vinyl might be for you. The first teaser for the original series shows a rich and loud world set in New York City during the ’70s–it’s all about rock ‘n’ roll. Director Martin Scorsese is involved in the project, as are Terence Winter and Mick Jagger. [Nerdist]
Do you think Horrorstör will make you feel differently about going to Ikea? Head to the comments and let me know your thoughts about the combination of furniture and horror.
