Take a Look at Nintendo’s Lists of Top-Selling Switch and 3DS Games

Nintendo may have had a hard time selling the Wii U, but the Switch is a different story. The latter console has already surpassed the Wii U’s lifetime total console sales with 19.67 million units versus its predecessor’s 13.56 million. If you’re into this kind of sales data, Nintendo has just released a whole bunch of interesting information about how well the Switch and its games are performing (via Kotaku).

First, here’s the list of best-selling Switch games:

  1. Super Mario Odyssey – 11.17 million
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 10.35m
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 9.32m
  4. Splatoon 2 – 6.76m
  5. 1-2-Switch – 2.45m
  6. ARMS – 2.01m
  7. Kirby Star Allies – 1.89m
  8. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.42m
  9. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.40m
  10. Nintendo Labo (series) – 1.39m
  11. Mario Tennis Aces – 1.38m

There are no surprises here: Mario and Zelda are on top; Splatoon 2 also did well; and then first-party titles populate the rest of the list. Impressive is Mario Tennis Aces‘ inclusion on the list, since it was just released on June 22, and Nintendo’s data factors in sales as of June 30.

Thanks to an archived version of Nintendo’s sales data page from this time last year, we can also see what the console and its games have done from June 2017 to June 2018. Since then, about 14.97 million Switches have been sold. While a lot of games on the current list weren’t out in June 2017, we do know that since then, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 6.81 million copies, while Zelda: Breath of the Wild has moved 5.4 million. Overall, 86.93 million Switch games have been sold, with 73.33 million of those sales happening in the last year.

If you were wondering how the 3DS is doing, people are still buying them. The handheld has 72.89 million lifetime sales, with 5.81 million of those coming last year, as well as 367.84 million games sold, 32.74 of those last year. Here’s the 3DS’ lifetime top 10:

  1. Mario Kart 7 – 17.21m
  2. Pokémon X/Pokémon Y – 16.31m
  3. Pokémon Sun/Pokémon Moon – 16.12m
  4. Pokémon Omega Ruby/Pokémon Alpha Sapphire – 14.10m
  5. New Super Mario Bros. 2 – 12.70m
  6. Super Mario 3D Land – 12.12m
  7. Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 11.78m
  8. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – 9.30m
  9. Pokémon Ultra Sun/Pokémon Ultra Moon – 7.72m
  10. Tomodachi Life – 6.25m

What do you make of this data? In your opinion, have any games undersold, or perhaps oversold? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
