TOP GUN 2 Is Still in the Works, Now with Proof of Tom Cruise

We still have the need… the need for speed. Three decades after we first got on the highway to the danger zone, it looks like, finally, we might get to head back the sky to shoot down some faceless bogies.

This May marks 30 years since the original Top Gun was released, and there has been plenty of talk and speculation ever since that we might someday get a sequel. Well, we might finally be ready to buzz the tower again, because two very important pieces of the sequel puzzle came together to discuss the long-awaited followup movie.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted a photo with Maverick himself, Tom Cruise, explaining that the two met in New Orleans to discuss getting those fighter jets back in the air.

It was just this past November when Iceman, a.k.a. Val Kilmer, said he was approached and ready to get back into the cockpit. However, he did later backtrack slightly, saying the sequel might not have been as close to happening as he suggested. Now that Cruise and Bruckheimer seem to be discussing really making it happen, Kilmer (and the rest of us) can really get excited. Unfortunately, the film will need to find a new director; Tony Scott, the action movie icon who helmed the first Top Gun, died in 2012.

However it turns out, if this sequel doesn’t have a new pilot named Archer, I’m going to be very disappointed.
