Tom Hanks Led Biopic SULLY Gets a Release Date

Tom Hanks once again stars as the heroic captain whose daring and bravery saved countless lives, in the dramatic story based on real life events ripped from the headlines, in the biopic Captain Phillips 2: I’m Still the Captain Now.

No, wait, that’s not right.

Though it is true that Hanks once again will headline a movie about a brave (and very real) captain, this time it’s not about a story that took place on a boat, but rather on an airplane…that then ended up on the water.

Sully, the Clint Eastwood-directed movie based on the heroic actions of Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who successfully executed an emergency airplane landing on the Hudson River in January of 2009, starring Hanks as the quick-thinking captain, now has a release date: September 9, 2016.

Shortly after taking off from New York City’s LaGuardia airport, the U.S. Airways plane lost both engines as the result of a flock of geese. Deciding he couldn’t make it back in time, captain Sully made a highly difficult and highly skilled water landing, saving the life of everyone on board.

Unlike the story of Captain Phillips, whose actions and decisions have been called into question by others that were involved, Captain “Sully” is a hero without any detractors.

A few others joining Hanks in the movie include Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, and Jerry Ferrara. The movie was adapted by Todd Komarnicki from Sullenberger’s book, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters.
