Toast: The New “It” Flavor of 2015?

Here ye, here ye! The new “it” flavor for 2015 is toast! This may sound like a Portlandia sketch but I assure you, it’s real. We’re talking toast, as in bread that is cooked… in a toaster.

Apparently, toast has been riding a wave of popularity for the past few years. While Asian tea cafes have been serving brick toasts as a dessert, piled high with ice cream, fresh fruit and condensed milk, other restaurants offer gourmet versions of toast with DIY toppings and homemade spreads on organic artisanal bread. It’s so trendy that some New York and LA restaurants sell toast for as much as $7 a slice.

Foodies are so consumed with toast that now it’s gone meta and become its own flavor. Have you ever wanted your chocolate to taste more like toast? You’re in luck, buttered toast chocolate bars are a thing that exists. Meanwhile toast-flavored tea allows you to fill your morning mug up with the taste of warm carbs.

Toast is the new blackStill can’t get enough toast? How about freezing cold toast? In Los Angeles, Scoops Westside has you covered with their popular caramel-y brown bread ice cream (their own take on East Coast grape nuts ice cream) or you can make your own vegan cinnamon toast ice cream. If sweet isn’t your thing, go savory and make cheese toast ice cream — anything to fulfill all your toast-loving needs.

Don’t worry, toast fans: we know Cinnamon Toast Crunch has been around for years and you can’t improve upon that. Or can you? Looks like the Bring Back French Toast Crunch community has to find a new cause.

I’m calling it now, it’s time for Powdered Toast Man to make a big comeback.

  1. Bette says:

Funny thing is… it was never about the toast; it’s about the girl who made the toast that started it all…

  2. Peter says:

The “Toast Marketing Board” (Jasper Fforde – Thursday Next series) is working over time.

  3. PaladinPool619 says:

I don’t even like my toast to taste like toast. Food culture is starting to get out of hand. And I love food and cooking, some might consider me a ‘foodie’ even, but this is just silly.

    • Adam Hoffman says:

There’s good foodie-ing and bad foodie-ing.  On the bad side, there are silly trends and people who post Instagram photos of every meal they eat.  On the good side, at least foodies usually give a damn about what they eat.  We do too much eating in our lifetime to just eat whatever subpar thing is convenient.

  4. Clay says:

SHeesh…. 2013 is calling asking for it’s stupid foodie trend back.

  5. Brian says:

Where do you get it for only $7 per slice? Every place I go to wants $10… Oh! That’s for the toasted bread! I thought you were talking about the toaster, itself.

  6. Brian says:

Isn’t there a story similar to this about an Emperor and his clothing? I guess the moral of that story was lost on an entire generation… (Hear ye, hear ye, bee tee dubs. #hardwicksmash)
