Three People to Be Buried in Coffins Live on A&E

A&E, the television network known for reality hits such as Storage Wars and Intervention, is aiming to push three people to the psychological brink by having Eli Roth bury them alive in coffins underground on October 26th at 8PM ET/PT. The three… contestants? (living corpses?) will be sealed in tight in pitch-blackness and left to battle their own inner demons as well as utter immobility for a full two hours while they’re monitored like a trio of Victor Frankenstein’s test subjects from afar.

And you thought your cubicle at work was bad…

According to A&E, the goal of the experiment is to test the “controversial psychological practice known as immersion therapy.” In other words, “What’s the scariest thing you can think of? Guess what, it’s happening to you right now, better get over it fast, don’t die!” It’s a great way to push the participants out of their comfort zones, as well as give viewers a vicarious dose of heart-wrenching adrenaline and soul-chilling fear.

For the folks watching from the comfort of their own homes, above ground (presumably), there will be a panel of sociology and fear experts to give a play-by-play of how and why these three poor souls are either holding up like the almighty Beatrix Kiddo, or breaking down like, well, any normal mortal. Acclaimed horror filmmaker Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever), will also be on hand to discuss the finer points of what generally makes for some good ol’ fashioned bloodcurdling screams of terror. Like mama used to serve up… at the Bates Motel.

What do you think? Could you stand to spend two hours alone, in the dark, in a coffin, buried alive? If your answer is “yes” how about you do it with some spiders too?
