This Week at NerdMelt!

The holidays are coming soon (can you feel the dread?) but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some great shows for you from now until you get a few days off work/you celebrate the holidays/you have to go home to your family/you eat too much.

For example, tonight at 8pm is one of our weirdest shows yet- Memories from the Happy House!

If PeeWee’s Playhouse hosted a comedy show on acid directed by David Lynch starring NYC/LA comedy druglords, then it would probably be called “Memories from the Happy House,” and guess what? It is called that. Join this NYC-based show as it ventures to LA for the first time.

Starring Jon Dore, Kate Berlant, Jared Logan, Scott Moran, Rory Scovel, and some surprise noises too!!!

For exactly one hour you will step into a time machine that doesn’t exist and be transported to a warehouse in the middle of your brain where escaped mental patients are putting on a live animated non-animated brain-show called “Memories from the Happy House.”

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Then on Saturday at 8pm, it’s the Regalia book signing and art show!

Love, murder, fathers, daughters and foxes- Regalia is a collection of short stories, and artist Eliza Frye’s best personal work to date. Some of the stories have been previously published, some are brand new, and one was nominated for an Eisner Award. They are all love letters.

Sunday at 7pm, it’s Matt Mira’s Day Off!

Matt Mira of the Nerdist Podcast needs a Day Off, so we decided to give him Sundays at Nerdist Theater. Come watch Mira and Paul Cibis host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani have both dropped in), and the magic that is live comedy. Come to our final show of 2011!

Monday at 8pm, it’s the launch party for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn {Robotic Edition}

Diani & Devine present an evening of bluegrass, whiskey, and classic literature altered to include robots featuring LIVE MUSIC from The Dustbowl Cavaliers, FREE COCKTAILS courtesy of Big Bottom Whiskey, robot art from Day of the Robot, and Luna the World’s First Personal Robot! Special Appearance by The Wien Truck.

About the book:
Mark Twain’s classic text has been a lightning rod for controversy since its first publication in the late nineteenth century, and has consistently been one of the most banned books in schools and libraries across the United States. In an effort to fight the censorship of this iconic piece of literature, editors Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine have removed every instance of the word “n-word” and replaced it with the word “robot.” Complete and unabridged (except for bits here and there), with E.W. Kemble’s original illustrations painstakingly altered by artist Denise Devine to include robots, this bold new edition makes Twain’s timeless work accessible to a whole new generation of readers … without being bogged down by what he wanted to say about racism.
(Get a free peek at the book if you go here!)
FREE!
And on Tuesday at 8pm, it’s Jackie Kashian’s Dork Forest!
This month’s dork on dork dialog is with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman. Jackie will dork out AT him for a bit, trying not to ask the same nine questions he’s answered a million times, and then we will find out what HE LOVES… I bet reading his magazine Heavy Metal might provide some insight. It’s LIVE, It’s going to be great, and you should all come. And with the comedy stylings of Baron Vaughn!
$10!
That’s it! There will be no Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail this coming Wednesday, and no shows until The Meltdown returns on 12/28. Enjoy your long winter’s rest, and enjoy whatever holidays you plan to celebrate in the next week!
