This POKÉMON GO Costume Is Actually Playable and It’s Amazing

Halloween weekend concludes Monday with Halloween itself, and while you’ve probably seen some great costumes this weekend, we doubt you’ve seen anything quite as great as this.

A YouTube user by the name of mattcyborgelt gave us a costume that is both topical and technically amazing, going as Pokémon Go. He didn’t just dress up as your in-game avatar, which would have been cool enough by itself, but he went the extra mile and dressed up as the actual game itself, completely playable by an observer. First, he holds up the PokéStop icon, and when somebody spins the logo in the middle, it dispenses Pokéballs. Then, you throw the Pokéball at the plush Pikachu doll in the middle of the gameplay screen. That triggers the classic rocking Pokéball animation, and on a confirmed catch, three gold stars on the screen.

It appears to be made primarily of cardboard and PVC pipe, as well as some mechanical work to make the animations on the game screen function properly, so color us impressed. As great as a David S. Pumpkins costume would be, we have a hard time believing we’ll come across a costume that will top this. Plus, it seems doubtful the costume version of Pokémon Go will be plagued by updates that sully the gameplay, so that’s a plus!

Mattcyborgelt has a bunch of other fun projects on his YouTube channel, like a similarly functional Tinder costume and a coffee table that looks like a Nintendo Entertainment System, so take a gander here.
