There’ve been replica and toy versions of the Millennium Falcon for about as long as there’ve been Star Wars movies. You know why? Cuz the Millennium Falcon is awesome! Not only is it the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs (which is a measure of distance, I know), it’s also completely un-aerodynamic and wouldn’t get off the ground if it weren’t for it being completely fictional. But who cares! It screams old-school space adventure, and is one of the best designs ever. But, like, the toys could never fully capture its greatness, mostly because no toy could be big enough to the action figures properly.
Until now, that is (a phrase you had to know was coming). At Ani-Com and Games Hong Kong (ACGHK) 2015, the company Hot Toys unveiled its absolutely AMAZING display featuring a 1/6 scale Falcon in the Death Star’s docking bay, surrounded by Stromtroopers and ol’ Darth Vader himself.
What exactly does “1/6 scale” mean? Well, the model is 18 feet long and 12 feet wide, which is bigger than most cars. The one they actually used to film the special effects for the movies wasn’t nearly that big. And because of the size, it’s also one of the most highly-detailed renderings of the Falcon I think we’ve ever seen.
As you can see in the gallery below, it’s about as realistic a thing as you could hope for. The fifth picture, I mistook for a full-size reenactment.
What do you think of this diorama? If your answer is anything other than “It is super awesome,” then you need to look again. Let’s talk in the comments below!
