STAR WARS Movies to be Little Golden Books

Not to sound too much like the old man I am (I’m 31, kids), but I remember back in MY day a series of picture books for children called Little Golden Books. This line gave me some hella good times when I was roughly 3-7 years old and featured titles like The Poky Little Puppy, The Little Engine That Could, From Timbuktu to Kalamazoo, and my personal favorite, The Monster at the End of This Book, wherein Grover from Sesame Street spent page after page telling the reader not to turn the page for fear of the titular monster only to discover – SPOILERS – that monster was Grover himself. They Shyamalan’d me!

Anyway, now today’s kids are going to get transported to a galaxy far, far away because all six existing Star Wars films are heading to the Little Golden Books line, with the familiar gold spine now featuring characters from the saga. A gallery of the six covers can be found below (and they’re all pretty boss, if you ask me).

Jeanne Mosure, Senior Vice President, Group Publisher, Disney Publishing Worldwide, said in a press release that grown up fans of the films probably grew up with Little Golden Books as well (ME!) and continued by saying, “We’re very excited to be incorporating Little Golden Books into our overarching strategy so parents can now introduce their own children to the wonders of the galaxy through this classic format.”

The first six books will be available July 28th individually and in a box set on September 1st. The implication here is that there will be more Little Golden Books in the Star Wars Universe from here on out, likely as each new film comes out. If they really wanted to be awesome, they could do Star Wars versions of their older books. I’d certainly buy The Poky Little Womprat or The Ewok at the End of This Book.

Will you read these books to your kids? Will you just read them to yourself? Let us know in the comments below!
