Things Get Dark in PlayStation Network’s POWERS Season One Trailer [NSFW]

The live-action television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s long running creator-owned series Powers, which follows two police detectives who investigate crimes in a world inhabited by superheroes and villains, premieres tonight on Sony’s PlayStation Network. The first two episodes of the series will be written by crime novelist Charlie Huston and directed by 30 Days of Night’s David Slade. Starring District 9’s Sharlto Copley as Christian Walker and The Following’s Susan Heyward as Deena Pilgrim, the offers a much-needed breath of fresh air for the superhero genre. The series also stars Olesya Rulin, Noah Taylor and Max Fowler.

Powers has been in development for a very long time. First it was headed to the FX network, where two different pilots were shot with actors Jason Patric (The Losers) and Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher, Into The Woods) in the lead roles, but that the network decided not to go with either version of the pilots, and the whole thing was scrapped. Powers then got saved, thanks to having an all-new pilot, which got totally re-tooled and re-shot from its original version, with new actors in the lead roles, creating what will be the Playstation Network’s first ever scripted television series. All in all, it’s a pretty auspicious debut for the gaming network’s first piece of scripted content.

If you read Scott Weinberg’s review, you already know that we’re big fans of the pilot episode. Now we have a sneak peek at the trailer for the ten-episode first season of the show, which features a lot of elements familiar to fans of the award winning comic book series, including super heroine Retro Girl, played by Battlestar Galactica and True Blood’s Michelle Forbes, and Eddie Izzard as “Big Bad” Wolfe, a supervillain and longtime enemy of main character Christian Walker. (For more on that, read our interview with Izzard.)

I always kinda hated Michelle Forbes. She a cool lady, but something in her acting bothers me and she always shows up on my favorite series and messes things up (which is totally not her fault, btw)
She did it with TNG, oh how I loathe ensign Ro.Then again with BSG and True Blood.

But maybe I’ll warm up to her since she’s right there from the start.
And I love Eddie WAY too much to pass on this
