These X-MEN Disney Princesses Don’t Need to be Saved, Thanks.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Disney Princesses take up just about every occupation under the sun thanks to mash-up art made by enthusiastic fans. We’ve seen hipster versions of the Disney Princesses and Disney Princesses as Jedi Knights, as well as other denizens of the Star Wars galaxy. We’ve seen them as undead zombie creatures, and even portrayed as fine art portraits. Maybe my favorite of all of the Disney princess mashups has got to be when someone reimagined them as lukewarm bowls of water (yes, that was a real thing).

Now a digital artist by the name of Diego Gomez has taken the lovely royals of animated Disney fare and fused them together with the badass mutant ladies from the X-Men universe (who, as Marvel characters, are actually also owned by Disney). Almost all of the major female alumni of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters are represented in this series. And thankfully, they’re in their original colorful comic book costumes, and not their black leather outfits from the live-action movies.

Among the amazing (or is that uncanny?) images in this series are Ariel from the The Little Mermaid as fellow redhead Jean Grey, and the shapeshifting Mystique as Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. Snow White works the whole ’80s  valley girl look as Jubilee, and Tiana from The Princess and the Frog summons the power of the wind as Storm. My favorite, however, is Aurora from Sleeping Beauty as 1970’s Dazzler, because pretty much anything with the roller-disco version of Dazzler is amazing.

You can see the complete collection of all 12 Disney Princesses as the X-Men in our gallery below.
