There’s a Hobbit House in LA and We Want To Live There

Sometimes real gems appear on Craigslist that can make all your wildest dreams come true. Are you sadly not able to make the trek to New Zealand to see the Hobbit homes that were built for the movies? Well never fear, there’s a house in Los Angeles that is for rent (can you believe it?) and it is straight out of Middle-Earth. Check out the gallery.

The house is actually called The Hobbit’s House, and was designed by Joseph Lawrence, a former Disney artist who was active in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It features two bedrooms, one bath, and one gigantic bonus room for you to live out all your fantasies of second breakfasts, fun parties and more. As you can see from the pictures, the house has rough stone hewn walls, gorgeous stone work, beautiful tiles in the bathroom, and more woodwork than you’re likely to find in any kind of modern dwelling. If you don’t feel like you’re renting a place straight out of a movie, well we just don’t know what to do for you. Did we mention the leaded glass windows and the family of turtles that makes their home in the small pond out back? Oh we forgot those? So sorry.

This writer now just wants to know why such magical places don’t exist on the East Coast? Would it be so hard to fit a Hobbit hidey hole into Manhattan somewhere? I’d probably even be willing to pay the crazy New York City rent that would come along with it! As it is, this adorable property is up for a one-year lease but you cannot bring pets to live with you.

Is this the kind of place you’d totally be willing to rent if the opportunity presented itself? Or would you prefer to step into another fictional setting for a year of living magically? Tell us in the comments below!

  1. Vince says:

I want a genuine “built into a picturesque hill”-type one, personally. Both because it’s cool, and also because it’s super insulated naturally. Save on heating bills, y’all! :)==This is awesome looking though

  2. Oh shit! That’s one fucking awesome house. To bad the whole atlantic ocean and most of ghe U.S is between me and that house. Now I only need someone to builed a house with a Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland theme. That would be so goddamn awesome
